New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Just putting this out here in case someone else has this issue.

I had an issue about 2 months ago where we started getting phantom rings on our mechanical chime with the ezviz db1. It was always in the middle of the night starting between midnight and 4am and once it started, we'd get them again and again, with a delay of between 10 and 50ish minutes. Checking the video, there was nothing that would cause a ring and the phone app wasn't even activating to indicate that the button on the doorbell was pressed so it seemed to be coming from the chime. This started after our kiddo repeatedly rang the bell a bunch of times in a row one afternoon.

I had to kill the breaker to get some sleep and it happened multiple nights in a row. Eventually unpowered the chime, to figure out what to do.

I looked at all of the reviews and current products and couldn't seem to find a new model to meet our needs (mechanical chime, powered and not battery only, reliable, decent video quality, no subscription fees and ability to store and review video locally and connect to an NVR, and ideally onvif even though the ezviz does not have that) so I ordered a new (open box) exviz db1 from eBay.

When it arrived I decided that instead of going through the hassle of joining and setting up a new doorbell, I'd try swapping the power kit first at the chime and since doing that, no more phantom chimes. (And I guess I have an extra doorbell waiting in the wings for replacement when my current one fails.)

What size transformer do you have? This issue has happened for many here, when the IR turns on at night and with a builders grade transformer the load would cause this. One other thing that can cause this is the power kit at the chime, if it goes bad but it would happen not just at night...
If you had your DB for awhile and it just started happening, maybe a weak transformer.

Anyone still using this camera? Somehow I got logged off the RCA security app and now I can't log back in! I suppose they are end of life and no longer supported.

Same thing happened to me.
Unable to use or move to EZVIZ since it states device has been added by rca account.
I see no way to delete device from rca account and reestablish it on the ezviz account since I'm unable to log into the rca account.
It looks like the RCA server is down.

Still using mine here. Never used the Android app. Do not utilize the PIR. Using a Home Assistant RTSP proxy for video.

Mine will do this occasionally when we get a power surge or unstable power. Hasn't happen for awhile though.

Yes it seems like we're both in the exact same situation :(

@David L your app suggestions don't work.

Hik connect and guarding vision can access the camera like a generic ip camera. I want to be able to reconfigure it and get PIR notifications.

EZVIZ can't add camera and complains that it's already added on a different account. @enduser99 has the same issue.

RCA app cannot login anymore. Probably shut down the servers. Gone from android app store.

Laview one app not on Android app store anymore either. Found another Laview app but can't add camera

Hi all, I was flawlessly running the DB1 on the Ezviz v5.2.4. build 230404 fw, combined with a RTSP stream (rtsp:/username:password@192.168.1.79:554/Streaming/Channels/101/) to my NVR. As we all know, Ezviz does not support ONVIF. This week, I had to shut down the Accesspoint which the doorbell was connected to. As the AP was activated again, the doorbell did not reconnect to the AP. I had to onboard the DB to the Ezviz App again, the went without problems...but guess what, now the RTSP stream doesn't work anymore. The IP address remained the same, but wondering why the RTSP stream is not working anymore. Any out there who is running the RTSP stream successfully? I know that I can downgrade to a Hikvision FW 211101 and that will include ONVIF, however when using this solution, the db will go offline in the Hikvision App after a few days, but remains connected to the NVR through ONVIF.

I am still running the DB1 doorbell with RTSP. I am using a HA proxy as the streams go to my alarm panel, Homeseer and a variety of touchscreens.

Hikvision - in sig - Nelly's Security NSC-DB2 NDB313-W V5.2.4 HikVision FW build 200321 - Only updated firmware once.

Hikvision Batch Configuration V (old one) - running on Lenovo Tiny - Windows 2016 (mostly utilize Linux on home network).

I do use ONVIF but not for motion detection as it was too sensitive.

Thanks @pete_c
Did someone got RTSP working on the Ezviz v5.2.4. build 230404 FW? As mentioned, it was running great, but after onboarding the DB (without changing anything) RTPS is not working anymore.

I don't have a solution other than trying to downgrade firmwares. You can search this Thread for RTSP since I know others had this problem, but it seemed to be awhile back.

I remember my DB would lose AP connections after power outages. Not all the time but I had to power off the DB, turning off the breaker, then power it back on and then all was good. Also had to do this when the SD-Card got full and no longer was recording to it. I would also pull the card and reformat it...

So try a power down and back on. If that does not work, you may want to try a 2 hour or more power down so the battery of the DB is no longer. 24 hour power Off may be better...

Thanks for the suggestion, but the DB1 is ideal for me as it works with my mechanical chime as well. I have been looking for a DB onvif compatible and works with a mechanical chime, no luck yet.

FYI -> I have downgraded the DB1 to the FW 211101 Hikvision, running on the Ezviz App. Normally I flash in on a Mac with the MacOS BCT. When I flashed the DB on MacOS, it always shows a failed upgrade, but the DB has been flashed eventually. Now I've flashed the DB on a Windows BCT with a successful ending. Let's wait and see if the DB will remain connected in the App.

I picked one up yesterday! I really would have wanted the POE version but no way I'd be able to get an ethernet wire down there and not have it look like crap.
So I am in the same boat, I even had an Electrician who was already running other wire for me, try. No way, only way is tear up sheetrock which the wife said NO, :), we just bought the house and had it painted before we moved in so I can't argue.

I will say you will like the WiFi version, it is stronger signal than the Hik. I have had zero problems with it. The White version is a wider lens than the black versions. Plus looks like you can buy more Chimes now. Honestly, the Chime is very acceptable, I have been use to the Mechanical Chime my whole life, this chime Ding Dongs and is loud and can be plugged in anywhere, we have ours by the back door, you can easily hear it out back.

One thing, which could me major, is no WDR or BLC, so if your front entrance gets alot of sun you will need to play with the brightness/contrast, etc. settings to get a good video. At our old house I had to sacrifice the persons walking up to our porch with washout to get a very good pic/video of people in our porch area. It worked for us since we have another camera that captured footage of anyone in our front yard.

Here is the ReoLink Doorbell Thread

TL;DR
Mechanical chime stopped working after several years, fixed it by replacing the LiPo battery.

--------------------

Data point for anyone else whose mechanical chime stopped working.

Had the EZVIZ DB1 for several years. Mechanical chime completely stopped working recently. When I pressed the doorbell button I would get an abbreviated chime through the doorbell speaker that would cut off abruptly and then I'd get the solid red power on light. Then the light would turn off. Press the button again, and the same thing would happen.

I took it apart and noticed the LiPo battery was swollen. I took the battery out by disconnecting it from the PCB and started reading this thread to figure out where to get a replacement.

In the meantime I reinstalled the doorbell without the battery. I left the temperature sensor in the unit, separated from the battery but still connected to the PCB. The mechanical chime still didn't work, but now I could press the button three times in a row before it would power cycle.

So then I thought maybe the problem wasn't actually the battery since the doorbell seemed to be working better without it. I tried replacing the power kit with that of a Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 (kit was labeled v3). No luck. I tried factory reset and deleting/repairing in the app. Still no success. I verified that the mechanical chime was still operational.

I then went back to replacing the battery. I decided on a 2-wire 602025 from Amazon, smaller capacity at 200mAh because I thought I might need the room. I clipped the 2-wire BMS off of it and the 3-wire BMS off of the OEM battery (they were crimped on). I soldered the new battery to the OEM BMS. Put it all back together and the mechanical chime now works.
