OK, I'm stuck, no live view on new NVR, but camera is working.

If you're able to navigate to the cam directly / then system services. It may be worthwhile taking back to default settings and see if this helps. Fingers crossed.

The "NVR" view simply duplicates individual cams from that NVR. No reason to do both?

As far as the error messages such as "Failed to open video" can be a poor wifi connection, underpowered PC, OR if you simply double click on that camera in the list on the left it will stream, sometimes it just means SmartPSS missed it

I have tried it on various PCs and bridged virtual PCs, windows 10, windows 7 and even windows XP, with the tiniest bit rates at the lowest fps. I have tried to stream minimal bandwidth substreams. There is only 1 camera and my Wi-Fi is strong. I don't think it is the connectivity.
I have made the IP addresses trusted sites with minimal security.
The camera always works the NVR never has, smartpsslite and heavy, IE8, Edge in IE mode, Chrome & 32bit PaleMoon (all with the plugins).
I'll play some more tomorrow with DSS express 8, it has at least given me the live image from the NVR.

Im saying theyre the same image.

If I click on and open each camera individually, I get the live stream from that camera.
If I click on the NVR hosting those cameras, I get the same views
If its connected to a PoE port on the NVR, the stream is actually coming from the NVR regardless. You're not pulling the camera stream directly.
Simply two ways to access the same thing

Example
I open both cameras individually
I double click and open the NVR

Same two cameras same two streams

Same with "Lite"

You have to double click by the way on the items in the device tree to get them to appear...

Agree with you that the ima

I have double- clicked till I’m blue. I don’t have a Poe NVR the camera and the NVR have their individual IP address. I also have a choice of a main stream or 2 sub streams from the NVR. So it is not necessarily the same stream as the camera’s.

Ok so if the cameras aren't using the NVR PoE and are on a switch on the LAN, yes two separate streams of the same view. And yes you have a choice between streams regardless

Like this
The PTZ Live view is on its own at bottom its got an IP on the LAN and is not using the NVR PoE
The Top 4 camera Live views come from double clicking the NVR (including the duplicate PTZ and 3 cams connected via PoE)

If you have "Resume Last Preview" checked before you cliose down SmartPSS, it will automagically open to the last screen you had open. No need to click everytime

OK, it looks like I can get the NVR image through DSS Express, but it was quite a palaver to set up.
But some progress.
Ideally, I just need the client, not the server mode. (I assume that is for cloud service for big clients). But the client download only becomes available after the server is installed.
Perhaps I can delete the server installation later, but for now, I have to see how things are working.
No need the server can work out. My suggestion is to make a factory default to the NVR and re-set up again.

Then make sure you follow this. Not all is applicable such as POE port, but maybe there is some simple procedure that was done or missed causing this.
