It works. A little costly for the converters but if they are ok with that, go for it.

I have used these for years in those hard to get to spots that were a pain in the butt running the BNC the first time.

Over time I have slowly made the switch to POE, but I still have two going and have been going for years. Zero lag or differences between those and my POE cams in BI.

I converted two of mine years ago just for testing the gadgets and while I've since sold the house, they are still working just fine running two 5442 4MP turrets

LOL I actually INSTALLED some RG 59 to be able to test them! Easy attic runs of 30ft but I used a full 100ft roll of RG59 for each and left it up there

Each scene/camera location is different so while the std 5442 VF is a solid choice, there may well be places where a fixed 3.6mm, 4K model or 5442-Z4 might be even better, but without analyzing each scene yeah. (generally fixed lens cams are better at picking up light)

I have 8 cameras around my little shack, I could have easily just bought all 5442 Ze's and called it a day but have much better coverage with
2- 4K-T/X (3.6mm)
2- 3.6mm fixed 5442 turrets
2- Big brother 5442H-ZHE varifocals
1- 4MP mini PTZ
1- 5442 Z4

he wanted to stick with all turrets * he has those shitty dome cams no.

hes not interested in the form factor of bullets, ptz etc.

I think goin with all varifocal turrets will catch exactly what he wants now. his current cams are fixed, so this should give home very good flexibilty.

another quick question..

i know to set up everything within the camera (line crossing, AI. etc)

wondering since the NVR has all of the capabilites, whats the benefit of setting these up via the Cam.

is it just to save nvr processing power?

and also, best hard drives to use? think this NVR can handle to 8tb? Any reccos?

Yes - you want to use the camera for anything the camera is capable of doing.

Using the NVR for AI type stuff can seriously cut back the available bandwidth and capacity of the NVR.

and the best app for iphone?

still just DMSS?

Ive been Sighthound, never used a NVR app.

Yep. It is a little quirky and you could certainly look at Tinycam or some other program, but I think it opens it up to another layer of hacking by using yet another platform.

i have used DMSS just to quickly live view my cams, but never set up anything to track motion, timeline, people, cars, pets, etc.

You aren't going to set anything up in DMSS - that is used simply as a viewing platform.
no, meaning viewing past recordings etc .. like go back to 7am etc and view live at that time? possible?

can u only watch live through the app?
