Ordered Sony SNC-VB770 Image Sensor Size 35MM :)

When you get a chance I would also like to see a daytime shot for comparison.
Yes I will get a daytime shot. Right now I have it scheduled to only turn on at night as this is one of the most expensive cams so I am trying to pro long its life as well since I really need it to do its job at night but I will turn it on at daytime to see what we can gather :) By the way thank you to you Parley The 4/3 ptz is really really good I had my friend pickup 2 of those units recently and he even loves it. I show him your video with mine as what it can do :) So thank you :p

I wanted to compare things such as the rocks in the front yard from day to night. My 4/3" PTZ narrows the "good" focus range down at night from the daytime. During the daytime the focus range increase quite abit.

4/3 Is also pretty darn awesome since it can auto track. It is the next best thing in terms of light gathering cams I got None other matches performance. I have one 1 1.8 4mp bullet and that does not come close to what 4/3 8mp can do at night..

Same here. That is why I wish Dahau would come out with cameras with a larger sensor such as a 2/3". Hikvision has them but you pay a steep price.

Some shots from just now After the sunset little bit light still left It was raining on and off today so a cloudy day...

1st the 1 1.8 PTZ. Trying to make all stay color..

2nd - My 4/3 PTZ

3rd - The Sony 35mm

One of these days will play around Sony focus .. but will need a second person to stand in the target area to dial the focus unless someone has any other idea here.. to set the focus in general target area that I want..

Thank you for the video. I would rank the Sony as the best, a close 2nd is the 4/3" PTZ and last the 1/1.8" PTZ. The colors on the Sony camera are very vivid. However like you said it needs some focus adjustment. The 4/3" PTZ has better overall focus looking at the rocks and across the street.

Yeah, I definately need to focus more in the front of the image to try capturing possible suspects faces.. Just need to have someone stand maybe in target area to try adjusting focus since the lens is 1.4 focus is very limited ..

Agree I also love the 4/3 of what it does :) Parley have you seen those Radar units which helps I think PTZ with auto track I just dont know how they work exactly.

Dont know why I did not do this sooner. I installed a Motion Security Light which is helping this Camera a LOT.. Here is a night time footage with the light now..

No, I have not seen or even knew about the Radar units.

The lights in the front of my house come on when it starts to get dark. When there is motion the lights go on full. After a couple of minutes with no motion they cut the lighting in half. Still plenty of light for my 2K cameras.

That focus on the front yard and white car was incredible. It almost looks like that miniature filter that photographers use to make real objects look like toys.

I agree. The focus and clarity are so good it looks like a high quality HD broadcast camera not cctv. With the larger sensor, you can definately see the effect of depth of field.

It's a pity this camera is discontinued, but not surprising given the purchase price.

Yea I just added these Motions lights. So it definitely is nice. Do you have it to turn on the motion say when someone is far or almost by your target area. Right now mine comes in pretty far wonder if I should adjust it to turn on a bit later. The reason I say that say that way. Criminals more than likely do not notice any cams at night before they come close to the cameras for a nice shot.

Yea the focus on this F1.4 lens is pretty darn sharp. The focus is set right behind where that white car is.. Since its a F1.4 lens the focus is pretty narrow.

The motion distance on mine is adjustable to when it comes on.

Not a camera guy, but what causes that sharp focus on the car but very soft/blurry focus on the objects just across the street from the car. Is that a depth of field issue?

I think this is the info on it..

Is there some type of security light where you are at? Video looks good.

The light above the garage is probably 100x brighter than you need to get clear pictures at night. Look at all the samples on youtube in fields in complete darkness with just starlight.

Does this mean you have to set the iris as well? If so, then you can't use it for day and night without adjusting it. It must have auto iris.

Never mind. Answered my own question. It has motorized iris control with full auto, shutter priority, and iris priority.

In looking at the sample videos, there's a lot that can be done to tune this if you want good number plate capture. Set auto gain to max, close iris to about f4, decrease exposure compensation which will overall darken the image some, and then increase shutter until auto gain maxes out. I did this on my much cheaper SNC-VB635s (which only run about $1K) and get great license plate images at night in color and it's a much smaller sensor on only full hd.

@tech101, it's been about 18 months since this thread had activity. Have you tuned the camera further? How's it working out?

Hey there, Yes camera can do shutter priority / Iris. However I do have a manual lens currently on it which is F1.4 if I remember on top of my head... So Focus is really shallow ... But It does what I need it for. I am really not doing plate captures with it or not Dialed in for that specific target.. Since I have other cams which do that part of the job just fine.. This is just of a overview of cars / People walking around at night to get as clear shot as possible of them...

However even though License plate is not target this camera still captures it even though that is not what I have really targeted or dialed it for.. But keep in mind Lens is so shallow focus as car drives away license plate gets out of focus... But it can likely do it if I wanted like you said...

(here is a ex from earlier this year) This guy almost hit the bins... Anyway really like this cam just wish it was more affordable.

That is stunning. Your shutter speed is really fast. In my case, I'm at the bottom of a cul-de-sac, so I wouldn't need shutter to be as fast so I could close aperture some increasing DOF.

I have two Hikvisions that track but they miss about 20% each which leaves about 5% of the time that neither camera got the plate. I want a 4k low light camera that can get LPs at night covering the entire cul-de-sac.

In this video, the mailbox is about 60 feet away and the top of the cul-de-sac is about 400 feet away.

The Hikvisions are 1/2" sensors with 35x optical zoom and object tracking.
