, raining...today finally here in Calif.
Does anyone know if the 12v connector on the BS-BH24S200-POE is live when the camera is running from POE?
If so, any idea if it could handle the load from a 7 watt external IR LED plus run the camera with its IR?
My current wildlife camera setup uses non-POE BS-BH24S200 cameras. I use active POE splitters to take the 48v POE power down to 12v, then split the 12v to power the camera and IR. The total power draw with both the camera IR and external IR on is under 15 watts, which the POE splitter handles fine. This approach is working great even with 300' cable runs, but the wiring would be much neater if I could eliminate the bulky external POE splitter.
I just ordered a couple more BS-BH24S200s with the POE option and I'm trying to decide whether I still need the external POE splitters if I want to run the external IRs.

I understand that's the intent, but power isn't directional and disconnecting the 12v 'input' from the camera's circuitry would probably require extra work and I had hoped they didn't bother.
Also, if the POE board for the camera is built from a generic one-size-fits-all POE design, the 48v to 12v step down circuitry probably has enough extra capacity to power both the camera and an external LED. I'm thinking that the built-in POE board might have the exact same components as my active POE splitter.
Based on the lack of response, my guess is that no one has tried this or it just doesn't work. That's not a big deal since the splitter approach that I'm currently using works fine. I was just hoping to eliminate an extra external component with this next pair of cameras.

btw - here's an example of the rig I made for these cameras. The PVC tube on the back has the POE splitter and keeps all the connections dry.
The external IR isn't absolutely necessary since these cameras do so well with low light, but it's nice to be able to point the LED slightly off center sometimes, which isn't an option with the built-in IR.

I will as soon as I get the 2 new cams with POE installed. The cams I have are non-POE. I was hoping to avoid ordering 2 extra POE splitters. They're only $6 each, so I guess I'll just splurge.Q2U said:

How long has it been up? Has it endured harsh rain yet? What's the board on top for...snow hat?
The cameras have been out for almost 2 weeks and we have had some strong wind driven rain. So far so good on that front.
The board on top is partly for snow, partly as a falling object deflector (acorns, very small branches, etc), and partly to protect the camera from impact if the stand gets toppled by something (wind, racoon, porcupine, etc). As a plus, I thought it added a bit of an alien vibe to the thing.

Did you run that extra ir off the same cat 5 as the camera if so I would like to see how its wired if you took any pics. I have seen those 4 light led on ali and thinking about get a couple there pretty cheap.
No pics, but it's relatively straightforward. The Cat 5 goes to an active 48v-12v POE splitter like this:

The splitter RJ45 output goes to the camera and the 12v output goes to a 5.5 x 2.1mm 1-female-to-2-male splitter like this:

One of the male outputs goes to the camera 12v and the other goes to the LED.
I think those 4 LED external IRs draw around 7-8 watts, so you have to make sure your POE injector can comfortably handle 15 watts or so if you're using the camera IR and the external IR. (I measured a 6 LED IR and it drew 11 watts).
btw - I've been getting the 4 LED IRs from CMVision on Amazon for around $11 shipped. The reviews are mixed a bit, but I figure they can't be worse than no-name aliexpress versions.

.Does anyone have their BeSafe camera hooked to a Dahua NVR and seeing jerky recordings?
My newly received Dahua 4108-p NVR the playback is jerky - every few seconds (5-10 seconds) the scene jumps forward a few seconds. Time display on the screen shows it too.
Originally had it wired through a few switches but now have it direct to the NVR.
Just picked up a Haswell I5 box and going to see if it does it with BI.

Seems somewhat related to my problem except with the BeSafe running as an Onvif camera, there is only one 'code stream type'.

Back on page 11 of this thread I mentioned that I could not get the BESAFE LBH24S200 to connect to my NVR. I then started having stability issues with the camera as well. Very sluggish when connecting to the camera via the browser. I tried rebooting and resetting to factory defaults, but the stability issues persisted. I found an older firmware on the herospeed.net site for this camera ([h=3]3516CV200_IMX323 W 6.1.25.1)[/h]The version the camera came with was 3516CV200_IMX323 W 6.1.29.1. I downgraded to the 6.1.25.1 version and the camera seems to be working much better. Also, my NVR can now see the camera via ONVIF. The 6.1.25.1 user interface is completely different, but all the functions that were in the 29.1 version are there.
Anyone else with the BESAFE camera having issues with the 6.1.29.1 firmware?
I'll let this run for a few days to see if the stability issues and sluggishness come back.
