Hi guys,

as IP seems the standard to go and POE becomes a neat way to power the devices up,
I wonder what POE switch for a home scenario you can recommend?

Requirements:
  • 4+ POE ports (at least 802.3af support?) - better 8
What standards should be supported? Are 15W output per port enough?
  • optional additional NON poe ports
  • Minimal energy consumption (in idle etc.)
  • Minimal noise - meaning ideally no active fan
  • at least 100Mbit
  • reasonable / low price
  • durability
  • Could be used one
  • Optional: Smart managed
Any suggestions?
What do you use with your cameras etc.?

Thanks,
INT

Looking at your list of requirements reminds me of the old saying "Do you want it good, cheap or fast. Select two."

To comment on the power output per port, if you''re planning on auxiliary IR lighting and plan on using splitters to power them, 15 watts per port may not be enough.

Installed many of them and even use them myself.

Price is the only thing to consider in your list of requirements.

Whatever you do don't buy the Dahua PFS3110-8P-96 as I don't believe they meet advertised spec.

That's why I wrote reasonable price.. not dirt cheap. ;-)!
Thanks for the hint...

Hi @giomania ,

thanks - I found the helpful post - only a few minutes after I posted this here. That's very good!
Nevertheless it covers a lot more devices that would fit my need.

Thanks,

Just wanted to add- I've had two Zyxel POE switches, both have failed. TP-link and trendnet are still going strong after several years. I've tried using gigabit switches to improve throughput, haven't noticed any improvement over 10/100 switches.

If it comes to a dirt cheap option - my attention was brought towards
TendaTEF1105Pwith quite favorable 'reviews'.
It even belongs to there business line.

What do you think?
I personally have never heard of them.

Thanks for the word of caution.
That's why I put reviews in quotations marks - as the reviews were all but negative.
I will look into the one you did recommend.

I just wonder - if someone has heard or used a Tenda POE switch at all.

As I got one offered:
What is the take on TP-LINK TL-SG2210P?
It does not seem the most efficient...but still ok?

Thanks,

Responded to OP privately but will post here for future reference.

it does not seem the most efficient
I have bought these in many regions and in some of those energy efficiency was highlighted by stickers on the shrink wrap. I am talking about OECD countries who have strict laws concerning truth in advertising, such as Australia, Singapore and Japan. I have no reason to doubt that there must be some truth to these claims without the need to break out the electronic gear to test the claims made by the Taiwanese manufacturer.

If anyone knows a simple way to verify or calculate "energy efficiency" from stated specs I would be interested to know for my future reference. Genuinely interested because it could apply to lots of networking gear.

Hi there,

I might go with a TP-LINK SG2210P in the end or should I rather look at the newer model?
What do you think?

Thanks,

no need to overthink on a 4port POE - LOL
get one that @fenderman suggested. There's a BV Tech on amazon for around $40, its fanless. I am using that, no issues.
If you got money to burn, get a ubiquiti 8 port POE that will give you 150watts.

what exactly are you planning to use that will require 15W per port ?

This thing imust installed has poe plus if needed on all ports.. obviously limited to max watts but eliminates extra injectors if poe plus needed with lower user like non ptz. Ordered midnight and had it at door at 2 pm lol. Just put it in shed after running power and cat6 underground for cams off shed and to send another down cat6 to poe cam number 3
