Recordings don't start until 5:00 am

I recently purchased a Hikvision mini dome camera as my first ip camera. Everything is good with it except when I go to check the playback recordings everyday they don't start until about 5:00 am despite the fact that I have it set on motion detection 24hrs.

I know there's motion before 5:00 because my other wireless cameras pick it up. I don't have a NVR just an SD card. The settings show that the max record capacity of the SD card is 5 GB and there's 1.5 GB of free space.

Would a bigger SD card solve this?

Can you post some screen shots of how you have your system set up to record, e.g. motion detection, and the storage screen?

Almost sounds like you have your storage device set not to record from midnight to 5am.

your drive is 7.4gb. 25% of it is for pictures, 75% for video. 75% of 7.5gb is 5.625.
You have 1.6Gb remaining. that's reserved for the pictures, and the overhead of the filesystem structure.

under advanced, do you have overwrite checked?

Under "Event" make sure your motion detection settings are actually configured 24/7 for all days (or at least, Fry-Sat-Sun)

pd. 8gb memory card?? Really?

Hi twisted,

Motion detection tech is imperfect.

Are you indeed getting good motion detection on the other cameras early in the AM?

A way to test this is to walk in the zone at 4am or whatever time it fails to detect and see if it is just a difference between the way the cameras are detecting motion.

I put an 8gb card in because that's all I had available at the time. I put in a 128gb card today so that issue should be resolved. The only other issues I have is I can't figure out if there's any way to fast forward through footage any faster than I can. The 4x speed seems barley faster than real time.

you need a proper nvr or better yet pc based software if you want quick review of the video. The cam sd cards are good for backup at best.

When you say better software do you mean Blue Iris? I'm new to this so I'm not entirety sure if Blue Iris would give me the ability to fast forward faster than I currently can but if so I would be interested.

Blue Iris is one option...it alloes 256x ff on the server and 64x via mobile app.
