Remote viewing

You still can, we don't care!
Well, I am not a young man anymore and I sold my Seadoo about 2 decades ago. Sold my sailboat about 15 years ago, which was on Priest, not Old Hickory. I need a Carolina Skiff center console.......that is more my speed, now.

First, does the internet router used by the cameras have a VPN server built in? Or, what is the make and model of the router, and we can check...

If the router does not have a VPN server, and you don't want to upgrade/replace the router, the next best solution is to create a Hik-connect account... then you can register each camera with that Hik-connect account... you would then log into that Hik-connect account with iVMS-4200 on a PC, or the Hik-connect app available on smartphones and iPads etc. (Some here don't like P2P services, but others are ok with it... I use it.)

I did not see it in the settings. We use the eeros mesh system.

I checked eero mesh... no VPN, but it can be configured to allow VPN passthrough so you could use a secondary router to manage the VPN connection... but before we get into that...

What do you think of using the Hik-connect P2P service? As I said, some don't trust P2P services, some do... It would also make it easy to share the cameras with friends/family... one drawback of Hik-connect is that the cameras can only be live viewed for 5 minutes and the connection times out (under some circumstances, I'm not sure, never times out on my iPhone for instance)... you can restart live view right away, but that could be a showstopper issue for some...

Here I'm logged into Hik-connect using iVMS-4200 on my pc (I'm not actually remote, but could be):

The blurred-out bit is my Hik-connect username.

Here's remote on the Hik-connect iPhone app:

I am ok with that.

The best way to start with Hik-connect is using your smartphone... download the Hik-connect app, start it and create an account...

Then hit the "+" in the upper right hand corner of the app and scan the QR code on the camera... if you can't get to the camera the QR code should be in the box also... if you can't get to the QR code use "Online Device" (if you are on the local LAN Wi-Fi) or "Add Device Manually"... it's pretty straightforward.

Once you have set this set up you can log into your Hik-Connect account on iVMS-4200 but hitting here:

Try, let me know if you get stuck along the way!

Did you create the account on a smartphone or iVMS-4200? It wouldn't make a difference, I just want to know if you can view the cameras remote using the Hik-connect app on the smartphone (if you did download that) ...

Maybe it's this... before I log into Hik-Connect on iVMS-4200 I see:

After I login:

In addition to my NVR (local cameras), I have the Hik-Connect cameras (I blurred out my Hik-Connect username):

These are the cameras accessed through Hik-Connect that you should be able to see remotely.

Yes, I can see the cameras on the app on my phone.

Good... then if you are logged into your Hik-connect account wile using iVMS-4200, you should be able to see the cameras there remotely also...

Do you see the cameras listed under your Hik-connect username here in iVMS-4200:

This is what I see and yes I can see them on the app. But, if I turn off wifi on my phone and just use data, I can not see the cameras. Says " Device connection timed out. Please check its network connection."

OK... if you use "Online device" to add the cameras you need to choose "Add Device to Hik-Connect Server"... (you still need to be on the LAN while you are doing this add):

When it asks for a "Verification Code" enter whatever you like... just remember it... this is an encryption password for the camera stream... you can disable stream encryption in the app later if you prefer... but be sure to keep the code you set it will be saved in the camera.

Don't worry about configuring DDNS even though it will say "Recommended"... that's for port forwarding which you do NOT want to do...

Last, hit "Skip" on the next screen about "Service provider Authority".

I just added a test camera this way and here it is viewed off the LAN...
