Review: Dahua SD5A425XA-HNR 4MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ

Something I just checked to be certain before I posted, the time task on both of my 6 series won’t activate while active tracking is in progress.

So once called away, it will only return home at 180 seconds of no activity, or if another spotter cam calls it away.

Had kids playing in the park, ptz was called to watch that area (preset 2) by a spotter at 1300, but with kids constantly being tracked it didn’t return home until 1345 once it sensed no activity on the tripwires at preset 2. Kids were riding a mini bike in circles so they kept hitting the tripwires.

Has anyone noticed the video settings changing on reboot on the v2.812 firmware? Is anyone running custom bitrates? what's maybe more applicable video settings to run with this PTZ based on your experience ?

I have the same exact issue, very frustrating.

what is the exactly firmware build date the PTZ use? Can check @ljw2k suggestion for that Sep version, works great.

Hello Guys,

i have Problems with the Auto Tracking (Human) with the "D-SD5A432XA-HNR"
In most Cases it loses the Track after 4-8sec .
Got that Problem on 2 different Installation Locations.
On both Installations i use a TimePlan for running a Tour to different Presets in Combination with PTZ Linkage from static 3441 Models to start Smart Tracking.
First i thought it could be the TimePlan that interrupts the Tracking because the Tracking is not prioritized over the Tour but the Problem exists if i disable the Tour.(the Idle Motion->Tour isnt working like @danieln already mentioned, otherwise i would use that instead of TimePlan)
I'm using Intrusion Boxes on the static Cams as well as for the PTZ to Trigger Auto Tracking.(already tried Tripwires on the static Cams to eliminate the Problem of triggering the PTZ again while it was already tracking)
For now i'm focusing on one of the Installations, which has the cleaner FOV (less Objectives in the Picture)
If anyone of the more experienced Guys can take a Look at it i would really appreaciate it. (dyndns rdy)

greets

Hello,
Sorry for the late Response, was sick the whole Week so i couldnt test.
Today i disabled all linkage actions for the Testing and got better Results.
I could see the Cam tracked me pretty long but when i tried to watch it later on video it only captured 10sec of it lol.
So even if it Tracks you 300sec it will only record as long as the "post Record" or "record Delay" is set? :o
If i set it 300sec track time i theoretically have to set the post record to 300sec for that Rule as well.
But in this Case it will always record 300sec on rule activation no matter if it only tracks something for 5 sec.
I thought the Tracking itself will trigger the record again and again while its tracking but it seems not.
Can anyone confirm this?
How you Guys set this up? Permanent recording or in combination with Motion Detection?
Will move on afterwards

Greets

Correct, if you set recording for only 10 secs, that is all it will record.
300s setting for tracking has nothing to do with recording time.

On Dahua site there seems to be a new firmware published for that camera: DH_SD-Prometheus_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_V2.812.0000032.2.R.220804.
Has anyone tested this?
I got mine with this: 2.812.0000012.0.R, Build Date: 2021-09-04. Are there any improvements with the new firmware?

yep. I installed it 2 days ago. It solved all the issues I’ve previously reported in this thread.
No random reboots.
idle ptz works now.
ptz object tracking locks on better.
Did I mention no random reboots!!!

I installed i two weeks ago.
No "new" Issues so far.
However i still have a Power releated Problem with 1 of our SD5A432.
At Night while IR is active it reboots as soon as it starts Tracking.
First i had an DHI-NVR4208-8P-4KS2 while using its Poe Ports.
Now i have an ePoe Switch with <30W on Port1-3 and <60W on Port4 which i use.
Any Suggestions?

Get a 60 watt PoE injector just for that camera. Sounds like the PoE switch can't keep up with the load when the PTZ mechanism kick in.

Your PoE switch should be sufficient based on what you said, but as sebastiantombs suggests, a dedicated PoE injector would let you know for sure.

Having said that, be sure to double-check your cabling and connectors since a long cable run (especially on thinner cable like cat5/5e) can degrade the power, as can any connections that aren't perfect. Also, consider whether your cabling might be running parallel to any high voltage AC lines that might be inducing current on your network cable. That seems less likely, and please don't think I'm implying your cabling has any problems. I suggest it just to be to be thorough. If you can & are willing to temporarily move your camera next to your switch and use a short patch cable, that might also let you know if cabling is an issue "by process of elimination".

Thank you for the post. I just updated my camera with the latest software. So far so good.

This is the exact issue i had upon purchase of this camera.

I went with a "DaHua Hi-PoE Midspan - PFT1200" dedicated HI-POE injector. I still get the occasional reboot, but frequency is more like once a month.

I did try a number of firmware versions before i got the POE injector, and the "V2.810.10O8000.0.R.P9.2519.UN.NR Build date 2021-09-24" Seemed to be the best most stable with the least amount of reboots.
However, so far the latest current dated 220804 seems pretty good, and fixed a number of other issues i've previously mentioned here!

Interesting as mine is powered by the NVR port. I do have other PTS's that I have a power injector to keep them supplied with all the power they need.

update - PTZ Idle motion still only works when you manually move the ptz away from a preset. I've re-enabled Time event to bring it back to a desired preset.

Would this still be the best, under $1000, PTZ with firmware that can be upgraded without losing auto-tracking?
Just looking at my options for the front of my house, if for some reason the mini-ptz coming out doesn't pan out.

@Wildcat_1 @EMPIRETECANDY and whomever else would like to chime in.

Yes, original Autotracking, so always can be updated.
