Review-Dahua Starlight IPC-HDW5231R-ZE 800 meter capable ePOE

Here are some pics. It also has trouble focusing it seems when zoomed out. The bottom pic is zoomed in about 25%. The camera is mounted under the eve of the second floor, and a 30ft ladder is needed to access, so I really do not want to have to swap it out if I do not need to.

Hi,

Is there any update on this issue, this reminds me of hikvision dome cameras.

Anyone else having this issue of IR reflection on the ZE models?

From what i am reading on this IR issue and focus issues, is it best to stick with the Z versions.

Thanks

How are the cameras?

Finally got some time to check them and they all seem fine when quickly checked indoors in daylight. Will be about two more months until I’ll get to install them in my summer house, then we’ll see if they’re really ok, no ir glares (which seem to be another problem with this
Model) or stuff.
Fingers crossed they’re ok but if they aren’t, I’m sure Andy will work with me to find a solution.

Thanks for the review! The black face will help maybe deter the lazy dog owners not cleaning their pet's shit on my yard.

I ordered two of these cameras, and I have noticed that one of them appears to have the focus problem where the focus is off between day and night. This particular camera is setup so that it is zoomed all the way in, so perhaps the issue is more pronounced using the longer focal distance. I started the test with autofocus done during the daytime. I found that the nighttime settings tend to show objects that are closer out of focus, and after refocusing the focus is shifted to be slightly closer in. The focus is then off during the daytime with objects in the distance being out of focus.

This camera has the IR turned off, but there are other cameras in the area with IR turned on. If I turn on the IR on this camera, it reflects heavily off the wall that it is mounted on. I'm not sure why that would happen, but haven't tried turning it a bit to see if the reflection goes away, or if the reflection is perhaps bouncing off the internal glass of camera.

Attached pictures:

nighttime_before - shows picture at night after being focused for daytime. Notice the bushes closer in appear blurry

nighttime_after - after refocusing for night. Bushes are now clearer

It is possible that the arch and columns in the FOV are causing the cam to focus on them, and not the distant scene.
You didn't provide a pic of the reflection issue you mention, but I'd also bet IR is reflecting off the arch and columns.
Upload and insert pics here properly, so we don't have download them to view.

Looking to connect via POE injector or DC Power
Any advantage/disadvantage of either type?
Can I use the POE injector that came with a Unifi LR?

Ok, I just edited my post and inserted the images inline with my text. The IR reflections may be bouncing off the walls and archway, that is what I need to test further. I will attach a picture of the IR reflection later tonight.

Regarding the focus, I don't think the camera is focusing on the archway, since I initially focused during the day, and you can see from the after day focus shot that the image is clear and objects in the distance are in focus. That is my starting point. The nighttime shot (before), show the bushes which are closer being a bit blurry.

Seems this is not Lens problem. The IR on/off switches make the out off focus. Try to make a hard reset on the cam and see how it works, hard reset button is inside the camera. Can easy found.

Andy is on Amazon!!!! Yeah.

I believe the Unifi LR POE injector is a passive 24volt injector so it wouldn't work if that is the case.

It’s the PFB203W wall mount, they look great with the cameras.

Is this an indoor or outdoor mount? I am interested in the mount but my concerned is that if any rain managed to into the mount then it will pool water in the back where it cover the wall bracket unless there hole for drainage at the bottom of it?

Water could get out the same way it gets into
The shape of the mount is leading to the bottom. And depending on how you mount the bracket of the mount. You’ll be fine with two screws. If you come with the cable from behind water might drain down the cable into the wall. But if you have any worries a transparent silicone will do the job.

For anybody who’s interested, the PFB203W is combinable with the PFA137. In some cases like mine you’ll need the PFA137 in addition to get a little distance to the PFB203W.
