Review-I'll be the guinea pig for the new SD59225U-HNI PTZ.

There seems to be a new 2017 firmware release:

Anyone tried it yet?

@EMPIRETECANDY Is it safe to install? And if so, which version should i use? In my country PAL is the standard, however the PTZ came with NTSC firmware installed. Can i run the PAL version of this newer firmware? Is there waranty when the firmware update bricks the camera?

Do I understand correctly that two files should be used to update? The file labeled PTZ and the NTSC or PAl file?

As far as i know you just need the one for PAL or NTSC. I don't know what that generic one is about honestly. I have installed the PAL binary and it works. Some changes in the WebUI and the settings (for instance, there is no more General IVS settings tab anymore and no way to set Track-limits). I'm hoping it will change the Autotracking for the better. I will keep you informed.

That would be interesting I must admit

I haven't set those up yet. It's supposed to be nice here tomorrow so was planning on installing another pir and tinkering with some of the other settings.

My furnace puts off steam that trips 1 of my cameras. Used to be 2 until I installed a pir. It sucks! Last night the pir worked perfect. No false alarms on that side. It picked up a opossum and our cat come through. No false triggers. Can't wait to have the rest of the pir's installed. My SD59 is setup in a group and spins to the side when the pir trips for my turret cam. Works out awesome.

Running into some issues now with the new (march 2017) firmware. The PTZ doesn't zoom in while in autotracking mode. No setting to change that ;-((((((((

When the PTZ starts tracking it doesn't go beyond 2x zoom. Mostly it even stays on 1x zoom (so no zoom). I wonder what this might be.

Also some settings have vanished, like Global IVS setup (never understood what it was for anyways) and the Tracking limits.

Did you keep the old version? I was thinking of updating, but I do have the old one to downgrade.

Would it be more economical to buy the cheaper 49 series and add your own PIR's if you wanted the auto tracking feature ?
The 49 will not auto track. But you should be able to set it to swing to the tripped side with presets within BI.

Mine auto tracks pretty decent. Was it worth the difference? I haven't came to a conclusion yet. Still tinkering with it. The pir's have nothing to do with the SD59 or SD49. You should be able to do the same thing with motion detection and group camera settings. Not looking at it right now but pretty sure that is how I tied the 2 together. The only difference would be once the camera is triggered to preset whatever, one would track and one would not.

The pir's were to avoid the false triggers that I'm sure those who are experts at BI can do with motion detection tweaking. Since getting my pir in the correct location and set on most sensitive settings, the only triggers I had picked up were live animals/ humans and nothing else. No cloud triggers, house shadow trigger, etc. Will they be perfect for around my house completely, probably not. House is close to a pretty busy street and placement is going to be interesting. But I am going to try.
