I apologize if this is a dumb question. I'm new to purchasing Dahua cameras from Empiretecandy. In terms of the firmware, can the firmware be downloaded and installed from the Dahua website, or does Empiretecandy keep a separate place with firmware updates?

You can download from dahua, but andy generally has newer versions available that are not yet on the dahua website.

Cameras purchased from Andy will generally have the latest already on them when received. Unless you have an issue with a cam, it's best to: If its not broke, don't fix it.

Thanks @looney2ns. My main concern was having the ability to upgrade to SmartIR when the firmware update is released. After that, I definitely would not upgrade the firmware again. :)

Hi, prob a dumb question but sure I'm a beginner at its my first post.

Is this pan tilt and zone on this camera motorised? Can it be controlled after its installed?

Regards

So with the latest firmware is it better than the good old trusty 5231?
hard to say, IPC-HDW5231R-ZE has motorized lens, the 4MP new one not. Will be a little hard for selection the lens. Daytime, surely 4mp is better.

I have not used the older model as I recently switched over from some older Axis cameras. I was amazed at the new ones with how good day and night quality was. They stay in color with only a little white light on where my old cameras struggled with B&W.
