Hi,


I have a client what have a specific request.He have 20 IP cameras connected to the NVR of Hikvision NVR DS-7732NI-I4/16P.


He is afraid that if there is any robbery in his location and they take the NVR, that the private images can be access.


He want a remote solution that he can burn or electrical overload the HDD ,via smartphone or local with a button from his location.


If is any a easy solution for a NAS , I can replace it.


Any solution for this case ?


I am being crazy searching.

Tell him to stop watching TV...
You can hide the nvr..or record to PC using VMS software and encrypt the recording folders....

No easy solution. There are solutions, but nothing is easy or off the shelf.

Consider a USB key physically concealed in a building and connected to the recording pc with an extension cable. That key is used to decrypt the pc filesystem on boot up, and you use pc software to record with. The system automatically unlocks using the key stored on the usb on boot up and it all happens transparently.

There are probably other ways to do it, but this one works for me. I use a Linux server with the windows based VMS running in a VM. The filesystem is encrypted at the Linux level, so Windows just sees a block device. I'm sure if you looked around you could do it with a Windows only box.

The mitigated threat is only casual theft. A determined attacker would research the network and system before walking out the door with the kit.

Remote destruction is another story altogether. Hard to quickly make a hard disk unrecoverable without thermite.

Your best bet would be to call Wile E. Coyote and ask for a copy of his Acme products catalogue. There'll be something in there that would do the job.

sounds like this old school idiot whom dont trust encryption has absolutely no business using video surveillance.. the robots will use them to wipe him out once Skynet becomes active.
