Use the webGUI to restore the settings or refer to your earlier XML response for the original settings.

Another way to manipulate the settings might be directly on the webGUI. I'll post a capture on how shortly.
Copy that! Nice-n-easy :) … it's making sense... I've experimented with ExposureType as 'auto' and OverexposeSuppress as 'True'.... definitely changes how the PTZ re-acts to car number plates (license plates) at night when in IR mode (it's 2.46am Monday 3rd February in here in Perth - Western Australia)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Exposure>
<ExposureType>auto</ExposureType>
<OverexposeSuppress>
<enabled>true</enabled>
</OverexposeSuppress>
</Exposure>

I can now have the PTZ Image settings at the defaults and overexposure functions much better when view car license plates... (as compared to having to adjust the Brightness value to 9 out of 100)...

The following will open up features and settings that should not be available. Fiddling may cause the camera to freeze so use with caution.
I suggest you only experiment with the exposure settings if you try this.
In IE11 open the camera’s webGUI and go to Configuration>Image>Display Settings
Press F12 to open Developer options.
In the DOM Explorer scroll down to the line I've boxed in red. Then in the Styles window on the right uncheck display : none important

Close the developer tools using the x in the top right corner of the black bar and you should have the following to experiment with:

HI Stewart,

Thanks very much for the ISAPI programming lesson mate! I greatly appreciate all your time on this. I'm off to bed as I have work in the morning!!! :sleepy::sleepy::sleepy: (4 hours time!!!).

Sensational, thank you for the webGUI settings/instructions. I'll have a smash (haha) at it after work today! Stewart, you're an absolute champion mate, thanks very much again!

Cheers,

Tom

Anytime, glad it worked out.
Hi Stewart,

Hope all is well... I managed to find the setting in DOM Explorer on my PTZ (model again is DS-2DF8236IX-AELW). Took a bunch of expanding the various configuration items. Is there a way to auto-expand each item without having to manual click, check repeat etc. etc? No worries if not - it's 40 mins of my life that I'll never get back expanding each individual config item! (haha)

Anyway the Exposure hidden settings look like...

output 14.PNG

Whilst the Exposure Level slide bar is visible, I'm not able to adjust the value from '0', even when I select 'Manual' Exposure Mode or 'Iris Priority' for example.

Do you know if there is any documentation regarding the additional settings? For example, there is a 'Mode' and 'Level' option (highlighted in the screen shot above - dodgy hand drawn question mark! LOL!). I have the options 'Manual' or 'Auto' and I can adjust the 'Level' slide bar. It doesn't appear to make any difference when I adjust the level. I get a 'Saved' confirmation when I do however.

Thanks again very much for all your help in expanding my knowledge (as limited as it is) with ISAPI and the like.

Cheers,

Tom

I've noticed that looking through the settings that are now visible, many resemble the settings that are available by default with my Dahua PTZ model DH-SD6AL245U-HNI-IR (x45 zoom PTZ).

For example, with Smart Event, Intrusion Detection option, with my Dahua PTZ you can set a MAX. and MIN. size for the object that enters the intrusion zone (box). The Max. Size and Min. Size is visible when changing the visibility option in DOM Explorer. Refer the screen shot below...

output 15.PNG

To be honest it's a bit like choosing wall paint colours - too many options!!! I might set it back to the default and hide all of the advanced settings.

Ok... I have an update RE the firmware 5.6.0 build 190130 in relation to Hikvision H3 PTZs, specifically the model PTZ I have is a DS-2DF8236IX-AELW. It's taken nearly 11 months since I first applied version 5.6.0 to my PTZ in March 2019 and then contacting Hikvision support to advise of the problem with noise reduction not performing as well as what it did under version 5.5.6. I was contacted recently in December 2019 (after constantly chasing Hikvision Support) by one of their product specialists. They were really helpful and they were able to arrange for a firmware update that I applied to my PTZ.... Still version 5.6.0 however build 190701.
Hi.

I am new here, my first post.
After updating my 2DF8225IX-AEL to firmware 5.6.0 build 190130, I also found that the exposure performance deteriorated and I was stuck not being able to go back to 5.5.6 . Yesterday I came across this thread and after considering the risks, I decided to download the upgrade file and give it a go. What a difference this made! It is again a pleasure to work with this expensive PTZ.

Thank you for sharing this upgrade file with us, Hikvision should be ashamed for not supporting their customers in this instance.

Greetings from a locked down South Africa

Hi, no problems at all. I know what you mean with firmware 5.6.0 build 190130. Using the my PTZ (DS-2DF8236IX-AELW) was a constant reminder of all things wrong with that version of firmware. Build 190701 fixed the grainy image however I would prefer if Hikvision re-enabled the Exposure Level slide bar. The Hikvision release notes for version 5.6.0 build 190130 state that they enhanced exposure.... I definitely prefer the exposure slide bar setup with version 5.5.6 over 5.6.0.

It's been ages since 5.6.0 build 190130 was released and Hikvision are still yet to release an update. Hopefully they'll have something out soon-ish. I noticed that on the Hikvision US website they are still only providing version 5.5.6 build 180511 for download, whereas the Australian website lists 5.6.0 build 190130. Same goes for the Hikvision International site, Europe etc.

What a pain 5.6.0 build 190130 has been! :)

Cheers!

G'day everyone,

I have after nearly 18 months of constant emails managed to convince Hikvision to allow me to downgrade my DS-DF8236IX-AELW PTZ from firmware 5.6.0 190130 to 5.5.6!!! Yes, you heard right! Downgrade from firmware 5.6.0 with all its issues with noise reduction not functioning, over exposure issues or lack of over exposure correction in IR mode at night, woeful smart tracking performance etc. etc.

It's taken 70+ emails (or something like that!), being told over and over by Hikvision that it's not possible to downgrade and not being provided any technical reasons as to why.... to find a Hikvision technical representative who took pity upon me and presumably was tired of my constant emails in addition to hundreds of MB of footage highlighting just how terrible version 5.6.0 was!

I was provided a firmware version based on 5.5.6 that allows you to downgrade from 5.6.0. The firmware version 5.5.6 build 200628 is the same, functionality wise as 5.5.6 build 180511. I successfully applied it to my PTZ and after the PTZ rebooted I was running 5.5.6!!! I restored the PTZ back to factory defaults (in the Maintenance menu option) to ensure that there were no residual issues after downgrading from 5.6.0, re-configured my PTZ and all is performing well! Smart tracking is much better, identifies targets quicker and the issue I had with the PTZ constantly zooming in and out no longer occurs.

I then (to test) applied firmware version 5.5.6 180511 (the original version of 5.5.6) and this was successful. I then applied 5.5.0 170907 and this was also successful! So once you apply the Hikvision firmware version 5.5.6 200628 you can then whack on whatever version of firmware you prefer! Yes you can finally have the Exposure slide bar back with version 5.5.0!!!!

I have attached firmware version 5.5.6 200628 to this post so those who are lamenting how cr@py their H3 PTZs are currently performing on 5.6.0 can finally have the glory days back!!!

Enjoy!!!!

Hi
I can vouch that the firmware installed without problems on my DS-DF8225IX-AEL. The setup parameters that I saved from 5.6.0 would not load after downgrading and a default reset, so I had to setup the PTZ from scratch.
One issue that I hoped would improve, didn't. When exposure is in Auto mode, the camera is flickering for quite a while after changing scene. It feels like it is hunting for the correct setting. I can only solve that by selecting Iris priority. Even then I see a slight flicker, which increases when WDR is selected. What could be the reason for that?
I didn't have much opportunity to test the auto-tracking, which I had tuned quite well with 5.6.0 190701.
Last night was rainy and then misty, so I can't say anything about the night time performance, which is very important to my situation.
boomer53a, Thank you for your effort and also for sharing with us. I will spent more time tuning and hopefully will report a much improved performance shortly.

Greetings!

Howdy, no worries RE posting the firmware update, happy to help out. Now that you have 5.5.6 build 200628 installed you can install the original version of 5.5.6 build 180511 or whatever other version you like (e.g. 5.5.0 170907) and see if the flicking still occurs. With the flicking I don't experience this however I installed the original version of 5.5.6 180511. Something to check is the video standard (if you haven't already).

The electrical grid is 50Hz here in Australia and if I set the PTZ to 60Hz to get the higher frame rate, when the PTZ has a street light at night in the image I can see flicking on the PTZ image. Not sure if this is what you're experiencing however.

I also had a win with Dahua and a firmware version that they issued for their Ultra series PTZs. Same deal as Hikvision, Dahua released a firmware version that broke Smart Tracking and then didn't allow clients to downgrade. Dahua provided a new firmware version to me this morning, so I'll post that up on an existing thread on this forum where people had posted the about the issue. Hopefully this will fix it for them.

Cheers,

Tom

I just applied this firmware to my DS-2DF8236I5X-AELW(not quite the same as DS-2DF8236IX-AELW) which I thought was exactly the same as boomer53a's but then realized there's an extra 5 between the 6 and X.

Rebooted fine and everything seems OK but the exposure level setting is still missing just like before.

Installing the 180511 build now. One obvious improvement in smart tracking over 5.6.0 is that the camera no longer zooms in first and then tracks. My 5.4.9 cameras all center their subjects first at the start of a track and THEN zoom in. 5.6.0 breaks this resulting in almost every track failing. 5.5.6 restores this BUT the camera still tends to shoot overshoot and is often not able to center the target like the cameras running 5.4.9. That will be next since the 5.4.9 is still available in europe in the H3 EN STD package.

So yea. 180511 is a massive improvement over 200628. Their hacked version has something that really messes with auto tracking. 180511 brings it back to on par with 5.4.9. Now if I can just figure out how to get the exposure setting back. IE compatibility mode no longer works in developer mode.

If I use dev tools in Edge and uncheck none-important, the exposure level shows up but it just snaps back to 0 when dragging it right or typing anything into the value box.

FYI, the difference between the DS-2DF8236I5X and the DS-2DF8236IX is that the former is the laser IR. Same firmware for both cameras which are in the H3 series.
