I picked up a bare-bones camera module with Sony IMX 385 (2MP 1/2") sensor and CS lens on Ali Express:
US $89.0 |CCDCAM 2MP H.265 Star Light Camera 1/2 inch Sony CMOS IMX385 Sensor 2 Megapixel H.265 IP Camera Module Double Boards|Surveillance Cameras|Security & Protection - AliExpress

Specs on the Sony sensor indicates SNR1s (low light sensitivity) value of .13lx,
Introducing Products, Image Sensor for Security/Surveillance, of Sony Semiconductor Solutions Group.
more than 4x the sensitvity of the IMX 334 (in the IPC-HFW1831E)
IPC-HFW1831E
and almost twice the sensitivity of the IMX290 (is that right?) in the IPC-HDW2231RP-ZS

Maybe not apple-to apples, as the 1831E has 8MP on the larger (1/1.8") sensor (IMX 334),
while the 2231 is a 2MP Varifocal on the smaller 1/2.8" sensor, but it's what I had lying around...

I set each of the cams to forced color mode, 10fps CBR. The 8Mp 1831E has a 4mm M12 lens, the IMX385 module has a 6MM CS lens,
the 2213 is Varifocal, which I set it so it's showing about the same scene as the other two.

There's an LED street light to the left across the street, as you can tell from the shadows.
Cloudy night with crescent moon, also off to the left in this scene.

This first set of pix & vids is on auto-exposure (timestamps ~9:11pm)

then again with exposure set to 1/60 on all 3 cams, bumped up the gain a bit on each as well (timestamps ~10:04pm)

Video's from which the stills were extracted from Blue Iris (not sure if/how Flickr re-encodes):

I think the IMX385 shows less motion blur for comparable settings, which isn't surprising.

That's pretty good for that exposure.
I wouldn't say it shows a dramatic difference in the low-light capability.
Is it just me - or does the The 8Mp 1831E look a little soft focus in the near scene?

It might be interesting to reduce the exposure to the point where noise starts to affect the image, to better see which camera copes best.

Will take some more snaps/vids this eve at 1/120...

This morning, all 3 showed up like this:
over-exposed.PNG
The Dahua's have the 4th profile for day/night, so I'll try that vs the 'fulltime'/Day I had set up for last night's testing.
The IMX385 unit doesn't have such an option that I can tell, for exposure at least.
trying 'shutter' mode for now (had it on 'manual' @1/60 overnight.)
(it does seem to have decent controls by time for other picture settings, but haven't tried em - may not work...)

As promised/threatened, some videos from this evening at 1/120 exposure, WDR OFF, DNR ~25% on each cam.
