I would remove the Hikvison DVR out of the equation first (most likely this hasn't been setup with Onvif set-up correctly, hence it not being valid).
Default as suggested the NVR and required IP cameras, indeed use your separate power supply for this, initialize required IP cameras and set-up passwords, enable DHCP on required IP cameras. Then plug into the NVR POE ports and the NVR will assign it's virtual network assignment.
