Just got a SWADS-466CAM and have bypassed all of the swann cloud stuff
by finding the web interface with all of the internal goodies. However
there are some quirky problems with the email event triggers and I usually
always go and make sure that the firmware is updated on this kind of thing.

However, Swann's website really doesn't give you much in the way of updates.
I found out from another forum that this particular cam is a re-branded Hikvision
and I can definitely confirm that the from splash web login page of the cam's
interface is identical. However, trying to figure out which Hikvision cam it is
to determine to enough certainty to attempt to update the firmware on it.

Far as I can tell, it seems to match the DS-2CD2012-I and there's a new
firmware posted of "Baseline Firmware_IPC_En_V5.3.0 150513 (2XX2)(New)"
which covers a number of the Hikvision cams. The firmware on my SWANN cam is
currently V5.0.5 140829.

Can anyone confirm this? Is this a risky move on my part?

Thanks

It will likely not work and brick the camera.

All I needed to hear. It's very hard to find a cam that suits my needs without getting my
hands on it to try out. Got this one through Costco where there's a good return policy,
so potentially bricking the camera is not an option.

Did finally get the motion detection going with ftp, but the email notification was
important to me. Any suggestions in that price range? There's a lot of those
Cloud supported cameras out there, but not something I want to use.

Thanks fenderman...

There are lots of options...see threads on the hikvision or dahua turrets as well as Longse and Huisun cameras...
