System for license plate reading

I’m writing you for some ideas on setting up a system to read license plates.

Recently, I purchased a Lorex security camera system from Costco. It came with 6 cameras. After installing them, I added 2 more additional cameras. Presently all of my ports are taken, and unable to expand any further.

I’m thinking of setting up a second system dedicated only for recording license plates.

After investigating on the net, I guess I need a lower resolution camera especially designed to license plate recognition. Also, does this require special software?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Please read the LPR section in this forum. You will need a good quality camera, set up specifically for lpr and the correct software.

I am very New to LPR Camera and Cameras in general

also
do this search in Google "IPCAMTALK.COM LPR" with out the quotes. The normal forum search does not work well with only three letters.
