A good friend of mine asked if I could help him update his camera system. He currently has
DI-0635V SUPERDOME® 620TVL INDOOR IR DOME CAMERA W/ AUTO-IRIS VF LENS cameras with a Truon DVST 8808 8 CH H.264 DVR. So he has coax. He said the new cameras all can be stationary.

Is there a decent kit out there that can use the existing coax?

What do you recommend if price was not an issue? What about best bang for your buck?

Costco? Sams? other?

THANKS!!

Welcome @EnlightenedDarkness

We mostly discuss IP PoE setups here on IPCT.

That noted
1) you'll want to be certain he has good quality coax cable installed ( check the specs printed on the cable - cheap kits typically cheap out on all components and that includes the cable )
2) look at some of the Dahua starlight coax cameras - the IP PoE versions are well like here and a couple members have the coax version which they like.

Remember to also check out the cliff notes

Thanks to both of you for all of the good info. He was hoping to find a kit locally to keep this project moving. I wonder if it may make sense to try to convince him to go PoE ? If so, any 8 camera kit recommendations? He said he was more concerned about daytime quality then night.

HI @EnlightenedDarkness

Honestly for me when looking at it, a lot depends on the quality of the coax cable already installed as well as how well it was installed.

If it is good quality cable and installed well to locations you want - then I would try to reuse the cable and look at the kit that bigredfish notes.

That is standard RG59 coax

Yes, Dahua says it will work fine with their 4K HDCVI models.
HDCVI Cameras

THANKS, and very impressive YouTube channel.

What about DVR/NVR and android app recommendations? Once setup this needs to be relatively trouble free (if that exists).

One thing about HDCVI systems is that they are extremely trouble free.

As to recorder, the top dog currently is the new AI versions, but likely pretty costly

A step down and probably more affordable is the Pro H.265 4K series

As far as cameras, obviously a wide selection. The Pro Starlight series is solid and has built-in microphone.

Im very happy with the 3231 Bullets which rival the 5231 IP cameras everyone here considers the best low-light option

As far as Android app for phone, gDMSS is the Dahua companion app (You can also use a knock off called EVO PLus which actually works better currently), and SmartPSS is for viewing and management from a desktop PC
