The Dreaded GAP. Very Frustrated New User

Plan B: for a couple simple days, put everything on your C: drive only... even if that means 0.1 GB of alert storage. You have to find out if it is the external storage, or not. This is the only way to do so.
Plan C: if it is overtaxing your CPU... disable all cameras but 1 or 2 and run with that for a couple days to bring CPU usage down to 20-30%. You have to find out if it is your "T" CPU processor. This is the only way to do so.

Having external storage is most probably the real issue here.

One thing you can do is just route a cable from the PS and one SATA cable connected to the MB out of your SFF case and connect directly to an HDD and put the NEW folder on it. This of course would be a temporary setup to see if you still have the issues. It would probably be a good idea to jumper a wire from the disk case to the PC case for grounding. Use an alligator clip connector for this. If there is not a slot to run this through, take the cover off and leave it off for the test.

I have added previously an eSATA port to the little PC. It is a panel mount, plugs directly into the SATA header for the internal (2.5”) bay. This provides an eSATA port on the case and a standard eSATA cable goes to the Startech case which has both eSATA and USB3b ports.
The case has its own power supply so I know it’s not a matter of it overloading the PC’s PS.
While during this most recent bit of trouble I have been using a different drive connecting USB, I did previously have this eSATA arrangement running with the purple drive.
During previous testing and difficulties I DID change the SATA port device AND the SATA cable itself AND I ran the purple on USB for a bit.
The previous Startech case did have a slight scar as if impacted previously. I’m assuming it was a returned unit. I got a replacement in hand an today I am re-installing the purple, in the new Startech case using eSATA.
If nothing else, this will at least get rid of the USB.
If the problem recurs, I will try writing to the M.2 drive. I still can’t find any knowledge base out there re: ‘CGadsocket’.

I did send an email using the button on the about page..... and it sent the email (apparently) to the wrong place(!) it generates “Support@blueiris.com” And the reply I got said I should have sent to “blueirissoftware.com”
I thought that was odd.

Another note re: CPU utilization: at lunch I found it in fault mode; cpu 90% etc, not recording. I rebooted it and left it running. This afternoon I looked first at task mgr Found BI service at 6%.... opened the GUI, found the gap (not recording) and the log showed the CGadsocket error occurring ten minutes before.
This seems to support the idea I saw expressed in another forum that it is only AFTER the CGadsocket failure that the utilization starts slowly going up, eventually reaching 100%.
 
The link you underlined is the IPCT unofficial user provided support forum. That is where you are posting now. But that is not "official" support. They have their own forum (with far less traffic). If you really need to get in touch with BI then you need to send an email.

That is not the same as plugging the drive directly into the MB. Also, using the power supply from the Startech case is not going to eliminate the issue as being from an external drive connection. The process I outlined would eliminate the issue as having an external drive. I have two different Startech external drive units that I have used in the pass to inspect HDDs taken from old computers. I get about a 50% connection success rate using those.

That is odd. I just sent a support email to BI on the 21st and it went to support@blueirissoftware.com and my reply this morning came from there also.

The bi verison 5.3.2.6 in the result of the pasted for the email button is support@blueirissoftware.com . I have used this email address a number of times with a detailed problem and I have always got a response in 48hours.

Try emailing from Gmail, Ymail or your ISP mail account.
 
I rec’d an email from blue iris.com (mimet.com, I think it was) telling me to fwd to blueirissoftware which I did and have since rec’d a receipt confirmation reply.
Curious to see what they say about the weird error.
Searching the error phrase on Google returns only four hits in all the internet. All of them BI discussions. All seem unresolved OR cleared up without explanation.

Running now with the purple in a SATA box.
If I get the error again I will employ a SATA extension cable, eliminating the box.
Next I will try writing only to the C drive and then to a 2.5” internal.
I may be looking for another PC.... something with an eighth-gen full-power chip and a full-size drive bay.
Maybe the WiKi needs an update about making sure to get a 3.5” drive bay.
Actually, the eBay link it has...seems to link straight to ‘micro’ PCs that don’t .
 
I did not get the error again, but the purple drive is refusing to cooperate. I have now started recording straight to the M.2 256 "C:" drive. I set the allocation to 180GB. We'll see how it does...

Just a guess, but given the problems you're having with both the USB and eSATA, I'd say the PC is having some kind of problem along with the standard problems if USB not being adequate for video recording (multiple, continuous, streams).

I don't doubt that. Not at all. It has run overnight, at least, without a failure, so maybe there's hope.
When I reattached the purple in the new Startech box via eSATA, it started recording and then after a bit stopped (power good). It actually stopped spinning the drive. Switched it to its USB and started spinning (weird, right?) recorded briefly then stopped writing while still spinning. It took ALL of my will to refrain from slamming it through the wall.
That's when I switched to the C: drive. A couple of things left to try: 1. SATA extension cable to the purple; no box, no interface hardware. 2. plug a 2.5" drive into the bay.
There is one other bit of weirdness that I've been dealing with since day one; It seems inconsequential but in order to OPEN the GUI, (BlueIris Admin.exe) I always have to give it TWO open commands. Example: using the shortcut on the screen: double-click, the spinning circle appears briefly over the icon then goes away, program does not open. Double-click again, spinner appears again, then the app opens.
Alternatively, I can open the containing program folder, go directly to the exe file, double-click it and it operates exactly the same...I have to double-click it twice.
If I right-click and select OPEN, the same response, I have to do the same thing again for it to open.
BTW: after the initial double-click or OPEN command, the program is NOT seen in task mgr, it is actually NOT opening until commanded twice. None of this likely matters but it's the daily weirdness that I deal with. Nothing else acts that way, ONLY the BI GUI.

It is failing on initial open. Check the Windows logs.
 
Try disabling the option interpret monochrome video as a loss of signal.

Also download some stress loading and memory testing software and stress test the machine and test the ram to see what happens.

Two things: Running with the C: drive as storage (180G avail) it has been stable for a day. It held about six hours of data from the nine cams.
Today I borrowed a 2TB 2.5" drive and installed it in the internal bay so that the machine now is truly saving to an internal SATA drive. With 1800G avail it should get about 5~6 days, now.

Still didn't get the IDEAL machine, but I picked up one of these second hand, locally. It's "only" an i3, but at least it's an eighth generation, it's NOT a laptop low-power chip AND it should have the 3.5" bay so that I can finally run my new Purple inside.
If this won't work, somebody tell me!

(btw: the little box has been running with no issues since i put the 2.5" drive inside. Only a few days of storage, though.)

I'm now transitioning to the new tower i3-8100 machine. I have it running with ten cameras and it's doing fine except when reviewing without pausing... but it ony has 8G of ram.
I have another NIC and more RAM on the way. The other problem I have is apparently the same problem I've had all along... I have a brand new WD Purple 10TB that will randomly just stop spinning. I blamed it on the eSATA case, I blamed it on the eSATA cable, I blamed it on the USB cable, I blamed it on its being external; I finally mounted it directly inside a completely different computer... and it's the damned DRIVE. I've had it too long to return to Amazon so contacted WD, will have to go through a wait to get a replacement. Now, My trip is fast approaching (the trip was the impetus for taking the Blue iris system plunge three months ago) and now I will have to buy another drive to have the system useful while I'm gone. The little upside is that the tower can hold TWO of them when the replacement arrives. By Friday I should have another storage drive, dual NICs and 32G of RAM and an M.2 boot ssd.
If need be, I can also upgrade this machine to an i7-9700 if I wish.
Believe me, buying a Costco Lorex system looks like a no-brainer at this point.
