This is the problem with identity politics, with racial identity. Who really determines if one belongs to that category, and WHY the heck is this so important in the USA. Really, it is just a big DEI cultural marxist thing. I personally want to see more of a focus on merit and resume of what have they done for us or done to us.

There are many in Jamaican that have African ancestors .. and by some definitions of "African - American" aka "one drop of blood" many Americans can claim African ancestry.
The one-drop rule was a legal principle of racial classification that was prominent in the 20th-century United States. It asserted that any person with even one ancestor of black ancestry ("one drop" of "black blood") is considered black (Negro or colored in historical terms)
Thus we would need to trace Kamala's father's blood / ancestry to determine if he has African ancestors.
