Again you missed the point. Senile biden was not talking about 20 year old miners. He was talking about all miners. You lie when you state that mining is not cost effective anymore. It that was true there would be no mining anymore. This is basic economics and not up for rational debate. The young miners dont need career advice from you or a senile nursing home patient in the white house. Stop pretending that they are dumb and dont know any better. You are not their savior. We know from history that every time government attempts to control industry it wrecks havoc. Stop pretending that your brilliance will work this time.
Well, I said that we would not be mining coal for energy (power) production, at least not in the US. Mining for various things including coal may continue, but even the mining industry in modern times has embraced technology. It is not impossible to imagine a miner sitting in a control room on the surface using a robot to do dangerous tasks underground. This already happened in the Air Force with pilots in Nevada controlling drones in the Middle East.

I am not suggesting coal miners are in any way stupid or simple minded. They probably don’t need career advice from me or the president, but I am suggesting they probably would benefit from understanding the changing landscape of energy production, technology, and how it relates to coal mining.

If they want to be a coal miner in the US for the rest of their life, I don’t think there will be jobs for them, because it is not economically viable. Unless the government subsidies coal for energy (which is hardly a capitalist supporter’s ideal outcome), I think it makes sense to be talking and thinking about alternative careers.

Coal production has been in decline in the US for the past 15 years or more, and will continue, and it has little to do with politics and more to do with practical business concerns. Energy companies in the US are not building new coal powered plants and are converting existing power plants to natural gas, and this has been happening well before Biden any other favorite president to hate on took office or had influence. Natural gas, especially shale gas is plentiful and available within the US.

If the coal miners in the US want to continue mining coal, they probably need to relocate to China or India or somewhere else where they continue to build new coal power plants. I am not sure that these countries (especially China) would want to gamble their national security of power production on US coal exports, much like the US should not be dependent on other countries for energy production. So the US coal miners should consider something like learning to code (or something else, not everyone wants to do that) and work from home in their coal mine towns, perhaps even on automation for coal mining.

In my opinion, to think that everything has to remain unchanged forever ignores: (1) the realities of profit seeking businesses as a core function of capitalism; (2) ignores the realities of technological advancement in society; (3) lacks imagination for future opportunities when change occurs.

if we had continued to use dirty coal like in the 60's and 70's we would be discussing the upcoming ice age but instead we are fighting a so called man made global warming caused in large part by wackyodoodle envoairmentalists

Of course it is because mankind should have replaced fuel based technologies by now. But monopoly machines are holding back progress, so their propagandists environmental people over dramatize a man made crisis.

Simular to the media and medical industry's overdramatization of the common cold and flu, which caused their global weaponized medicine event. Difference is this one they broke international laws and will someday be prosecuted for the crimes committed by the manufactured virus scare after small biological warfare releases around the globe.

I think this says it all:

Unfortunate to see that nobody cares to have a conversation about anything meaningful on t.his thread. Does this mean that software engineers don’t work hard? Does working hard require physical effort?

What evidence do you have for any of this? What fossil fuel replacement do you advocate for?

Do you not believe in the concept of a virus? Have you done no reading or understanding on why the future will have more pandemics? Look no further than mass cultivation of chickens to see how inevitable future pandemics are.

Nobody in the US anyone to have any vaccine for anything. But you probably benefited from your ancestors not dying of Smallpox due to vaccines. So provide real evidence of your point of view or go fade into the ether of irrelevant positions.

I think you missed the point. It's not the job title, but the work ethic that's being made fun of. Most software engineers never had the perks that these cash rich tech companies have been providing, free meals and laundry service as examples. In my job as a software engineer the understanding was that management plotted to run everybody like a race car engine, pushing them as hard as possible without blowing them up. The only free meals were pizza brought in after hours to keep the workers going after they stayed late with no overtime pay and missed dinner at home. Snowflakes didn't last long. These filthy rich tech companies coddle them.

I am a senior software engineer and have contacts with all the primer tech companies. If you have actually worked at Twitter or Facebook or Google as a lowly software engineer then please share your coddled experience. I have never been coddled and I also have a real respect for those that work in the field as I work along side hard workers both in the office and out in the real world.

Joe or Jane worker at a tech company works hard and many hours and probably makes more than most. Is that the problem? That is capitalism.

If you are actually a software engineer then please explain how free meals or your view of management translates to actual workers experiences. The current or former Twitter employees just did what they were told.

I would say that anyone that works with their hands works a hard day. But, any good software engineer also works a hard day and that might mean less physical effort but more hours. Both are hard workers. If you think somehow the various former Twitter workers were your enemy, you should also hate the cashiers at your local stores, the mechanics at the repair shop, and the waitress at your local restaurant as well. They do what their manager tells them. Stop hating the people, they are your neighbors and friends. We all work for companies but few of us control their decisions.

Edit: if you think free meals and laundry is a benefit, I can’t help but wonder what benefits you were getting as a software engineer or how underpaid you were to think those are actual benefits.

Upon reflection, the responders to this thread should consider the lyrics of Elvis Presley, Walk a mile in my shoes:

If I could be you, if you could be me
For just one hour
If we could find a way
To get inside each other's mind, uh huh
If you could see you through my eyes
Instead of your ego
I believe you'd be, I believe you'd be
Surprised to see
That you've been blind, uh huh
Walk a mile in my shoes
Just walk a mile in my shoes
And before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Just walk a mile in my shoes
Now, if we spend the day
Throwing stones at one another
'Cause I don't think, 'cause I don't think
Or wear my hair same way you do, uh huh
Well, I may be common people
But I'm your brother

:) I guess humor is something lacking with you. No one is implying that. You are in the mist of some great Engineers here. What we are laughing at is the thousands that were trying to play God and censoring anything that did not fit their narrative. Apparently they had free rein to suppress free speech. Hail to Elon for turning Twitter back into a business and not a propaganda machine for the Left...

Well doggone, I'm triggered, my feelings are hurt, and I'm sorry I stuck myself into this. I'm going to crawl back under my rock and coddle the compilers, floating point math, kernel exception handlers, device drivers, datacomm, video conferencing, POS terminals, data encryption, and all the other junk I lived with for over 40 years.

There are several examples of things out there the oil companies don't want produced because then they can't sell gas to power plants. One particular is an iridium reactor. Its fuel is common to 80% of the erath's crust and exibit very low fuel consumption (maybe once a year, more dirt needs to be put in the reactor). This technology has been developed in the mid 1950s, but was not implemented.

I guess you haven't read what I said about this in the past on this thread. I was in one point in time, a biological warfare and pandemic response specialist trained by the CIA and the USAF. I know how to protect myself and anyone from any virus, germ or chemical pathogen. I also know how to kill with them on small and large scales and use many different delivery systems to make it happen. So I know what bullshit Andy Fauci said on TV, and I know what charges to bring up at the right time against him. I know exactly how pandemic response is suppose to be ran like. That is why the director of the CDC stepped down AFTER I bitched her out (oh it was just an online complaint that after the second she recalls it, it makes her cry because I pointed out what crime she committed and the things she did wrong. ) Of course I'm going to bitch at her, as a previous co-worker in pandemic response in the 90s, you bet I will complain when they do wrong. People need to stop blindly protecting them from the international crime this is.

You know what, I believe in vaccines, but anything to do with a cold or flu is going to be bogus because most of them are failed biological warfare and you can't make a vaccine for it. They might get close, but not without severe side effects. You guys never seen the mistakes they do behind the scenes, I have. It can be very gross.
