It is a great camera and probably as close as we get to the ability to run it on auto/default settings, especially if one has that kind of light, but it still needs some tweaks to a field of view.

But a good static image can be obtained by almost any camera. I would recommend to the user to confirm that they do not get blur running default/auto settings.

This is a perfect use for this camera IMHO - an overview camera that has color reference to make the footage from other cameras (including B&W IR footage) more usable. Now obviously this image is in very low light, but the shutter speed is extremely low in this case in order to get that bright of an image. You can tell from the person in red who is walking in the parking lot. They are a blurry mess and this footage would never be clear enough on it's own to provide identifiable footage of a subject. But the fact that you can tell the subject is wearing a red short sleeve shirt and kakis pants is a huge help - especially when combined with footage from other cameras that are set up with IR and have proper DORI coverage to provide sharper images of subjects. Having both cameras is a game changer IMHO.

TBH when you look at the photo previously, this is total darkness with no light. Given that, the photo is amazing. I've never seen such a black no light area turned into a bright photo outside of some very specialist low light DSLR's. It's only the shutter speed that lets it down and causes blur although it avoids noise whereas even some of the DSLR's when it gets that dark have noise. I feel with just a little light you'd probably be able to get the shutter high enough to remove the blur from the red guy.

Make no mistake this camera is remarkeable. I'd buy one if I had the money. Definately the best picture I've seen from any low light CCTV camera on here yet. Even the 6mm appears to gather lots of light.

^Awesome - is that on default/auto settings or have you dialed them in and tested it with someone walking around to make sure you do not get blur?
Yeah that is default settings. I haven't had anyone walk around there yet. I would have to get my father to do that some other day. Currently the yard light is hardwired so I was thinking of maybe putting a smart plug on it if possible so I could turn off the yard light.

This is the first camera that I got that I feel like it "could" be ran under default/auto settings because that sensor lets in so much light, but I would still highly suggest walking around at night acting like a perp and see if you can freeze frame an image.

I would say keep the yard light! The 2nd picture probably gives a false sense and would probably experience blur.

@Kamikaze yes definitely keep the yard light in place as the drop off for sharpness and quality will be steep without it. You’ll also still want to co sided dialing in the image to ensure best results under motion situations (people walking around, vehicles etc) rather than just auto but with all that done you’ll end up loving the cam as it’s very versatile. Just remember even on these, light is always a cams best friend ;)

Somehow I was able to order the 6 mm version off Andy’s Amazon site. Due in two weeks. Tried to order 2 but only one in stock. Have been waiting a long time for this FOV. Now if only there was a good turret version available for my front door. Oh, and maybe a couple more 6 mm bullets.

Yes, the 6mm just get the 1st lot stocks, later will have more. Amazon total have 6pcs, i think they still not put all stocks on the link to sell. So can check later.

Here is my examples. First is a picture with the camera with a yard light on. 2nd picture is with the yard light off and completely dark other than light from the windows.

Without yardlight.

Amazing how this camera is so good in low light that with the yard light off, in total darkness, you can see the toilet / kitchen rolls on the back seat of your car and the sunglasses in the front.

The back seat detail not beng retreived when the yard light is on. Even with the extra gain, despite being slightly softer, the picture overall is still remarkeably like the light on picture but with even darker areas retreived. Interesting to see how good/ bad motion is with this setting.

Wow, this is quite a review! (Thanks to Wildcat_1 and everyone else who supports this forum! :))

I ordered the 3.6 mm version from Andy and just finished initializing the camera. I was reading the Bullet Network Camera Quick Start Guide that was sent with the camera and saw that they suggest resetting the device after installing an SD Card (see image).

Does this really need to be done whenever an SD Card is installed?! (I assume that the reset button sets the camera back to factory default settings, and that the camera needs to be initialized again, i.e., new password and modify IP address again.)

Why do they suggest a reset? Does that cause the SD Card to be reformatted? (I was just going to use a PC to format the SD Card as FAT32 before putting it in the camera.)

I searched through the Dahua manuals and not much detail is provided on how the camera interacts with the the SD Cards.

I know this is a newbie question, but if anyone has any feedback, please share!

Thanks!

Interesting. I have never reset after putting an SD card in. Maybe that is there just to save space lol?

Andy, I was wondering are there any PTZ cameras in development that has this type of color infrared sensor in it?

Is this camera compatible with Milestone Xprotect and event-based trigger recording?

ptz have a 1/1.2cmos 4K and a 4mp polar light full color ptz (will be test by wildcat soon. ) price is not cheap. They will have bit good full color pics. Fixed lens Full color can get the best pics based on the Distance. Don’t forget the camera need LED light on at low light place. And led can’t reach as far as the IR.
