Hi - I am past 70 years (young) but my son refers to me as "the old man" so I guess it is all about perspective?
Late last year he purchased a 12 camera HIK Vision DS-7600NI-12/P series NVR and after spruiking the benefits to me I asked the obvious question: "Did you buy from an Australian based company? (for after sales support) "Well yes, I bought on line but they have a Sydney address and their prices are competitive"
Long story in short version, I paid him to buy an 8 camera system from the same series and he spent a reasonable amount of time crawling through ceiling space to install the cable and set it up. Worked great and all was well till I a couple of months later I asked my number 2 son to install the app on my iPhone so I could interrogate the system when away from home. The "electrician" had not written down the password, indeed doubted he even had used one so we ultimately were locked out of the $2000 system and now I don't have anything that works.
No worries you say, just go back to your supplier and ask for the factory reset. No so fast - apparently this "Aussie" based company are in fact in Malaysia, wasted our time with stupid answers until pay-pal expiry date then left us out in the cold. HIK Vision we have discovered, will not help with anything not purchased through "one of their authorised agents."
So - do I throw out a perfectly good security system costing more than $2000 or is there a way to get it up an running again? All legitimately bought and paid for, how were we to know these Malaysian "shonks" were not authorised? It appears where HIK Vision are concerned it is "Buyer Beware!" I am assured by a local security specialist that the system is all good, we are just locked out because we tried one too many times to guess the password. Any intelligent help would be gratefully received

Before I try either of these things (I think my security specialist already did before he gave up) I need to also state that the cameras, are also "locked" with no pictures coming back into the NVR, yet the device recognises they are all still there. Does that tell you something? Like - I have "backdoor exploitable cameras" that now cannot be exploited? The NVR tells me I need to provide the password - what password? Seems all passwords need resetting? This is all a bit much for me as computers and the like (NVR's) and I are barely on speaking terms!

If you have never updated the camera firmware and from what you say about
Computers and your self are not on speaking terms,I would assume you haven’t touched them.
But you would need to have a Poe injector or switch and hook up each camera one at a time and use the password reset tool, you will also need sadap from hikvision installed on a laptop to find out what ip the camera is on.
Then proceed to unlock each one.
With the nvr can you see what ip it has on your network then navigate to that ipaddress in internet explorer or palemoon if it’s locked out just leave it open.
As it will need to count down on a timer,so you will have more chances to try a password, you usually get six goes, before it locks you back out for a set time

Marku2 - you don't happen to live in Brisbane by any chance? (I couldn't be that lucky)
No, I have not updated the camera firmware but did install some software on my PC as part of the instructions I got from Malaysia - SADPTool after which some information was extracted and sent to them and they sent back a "key" that was supposed to unlock the NVR.
It didn't fix it but they had told me "not to turn the NVR off" until this was fixed so me being me, it has been running for the last couple of months doing precisely nothing! Just humming away there in the cupboard, powered up through the UPS in case the power goes off

Apart from feeling very inadequate to perform any significant operations I would like to give this a try with someone helping me, so perhaps I can get my son's assistance next weekend.
There is one question I have of you - my "understanding" was that HIKVison had a big dustup over people being able to hack into these units after which their security was tightened significantly only a year or so ago. My unit was only purchased late last year which in effect has caused the security drama I now face?
I note the bp2008 and wonder if the numbers denote a design date, in which case -will it still work on this later machine or cameras?

To clarify, when I was seeking help from Malaysia these guys seemed to be just pulling stuff down off the net, anything they saw (some I read for myself) and none of it got me anywhere.
Some instruction totally contradicted previous information they had sent and it was clear they were not getting their help from any authorised source. When I asked who they were getting the help from, they would never answer the question
I now find myself lacking confidence, not in you but in my ability to follow accurately the necessary steps to succeed and as you know, one little mistake in the chain and it doesn't work and I find myself wondering why?

Marku2 has been very helpful thus far and having slept on his comments overnight a couple more thoughts come to mind:
Is there anyone in the forum who has direct experience in installing replacement passwords for NVR and cameras in HIKVision late 2017 equipment - perhaps a Technician trained with the brand?
Is there anyone in the Brisbane Australia area who may be available to get directly involved for a price? Send me an email if you can - I am rather nervous doing this and not sure just how confident my son will be even if he says he will try

Alastair - what are you trying to tell me? You know the proposed fix will work or just that you have experience with HIKVision product?
As I think I said at the outset, my system was purchased from a Non Authorised reseller and HIKVison don't want to know me. As such I cannot get any help from them to reset the password(s) and am totally depended on the help of good people like yourself.
A lesson learned for me - don't buy off the internet unless you can verify the source and prove their legitimacy!

A slightly long-shot initial suggestion, which won't work if the cameras are pretty new with up to date firmware - but you never know :
On the assumption that the cameras are connected to the POE ports on the back of the NVR -
Connect the PC to an unused POE port and run SADP.
Note down the model number that it shows for the cameras, and also the firmware versions. And do the same for the NVR.
If you are very lucky the firmware may be old enough that it has the 'Hikvision backdoor' - older than 5.4.41 - in which case the password could be reset, or better, retrieved, in case the NVR applied its own password.

And an ever less likely long shot :
With the PC back connected to the LAN as normal, access the NVR with the browser, and at the login screen click the 'forgot password' link above the Login word, and see if it comes up with any security Q&As that you might be able to guess.

Beyond these, we're in to messing about with doing a firmware update which would also do an implied 'reset to defaults'.
But let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

3.4.95 so hopefully with his sons help this will work out.

I do recall one night after an extra glass of wine I logged into a test camera
And it came back password incorrect,I’m like no way punched in again the password,it came back password incorrect,I’m looking wtf how can it ?
Right let’s get bp2008 password reset tool out,it did the back door reset perfectly, then as I am typing the known password it dawned on me what went wrong, that extra glass of wine I had unknowingly clicked from a us keyboard to a uk keyboard and some special keys move, lesson was learned that night
