It's a bit hard to tell - can you get a better pic? *edit* You did get a better one.
Remember that a camera will need power, so either some wiring going away from it, or a fairly obvious and bulky battery.

Some better pictures that are in focus from a few angles and a few from where it came from would help. Was it connected to wires?

I'm thinking it could be some kind of buzzer but I'm not sure.

It is magnetic. But there were no wires or batteries when i took the knob and striker plate apart

I am 95% positive this is an old 2 wire magnetic contact switch for an old alarm system that was eventually removed.
