Welcome @Jbird711

There were numerous deals around Black Friday - Cyber Monday

Other deals come around here and there

Are you good with IT and IP addresses?

Thanks Mat. I just picked up the Lorex NR9163X NVR with 8 LNB9232s 30FPS 4K cameras for $1,1000. I figure that's $137 per camera with a free NVR. They're Onvif, so I could upgrade to Blue Iris if I find a need.
Did I read that correctly "8 LNB9232" cameras + NR9163X NVR for $1,100 ? I see that kit on the Lorex site for $2280 before any discounts.
Were you referring to a different kit?

I'm new here and currently shopping for a 4-6 camera system and looking at all options.

Thanks,

Hi @ScooterGeo @Jbird711

Remember the Lorex kits you see are typically Dahua OEM ( some are not, but in general the IP NVR kits I have seen on their website are Dahua OEM ).

So my recommendation:
1) do feel free to map the appropriate Lorex camera's and kits you like to an international Dahua OEM model.
2) Contact Andy ( EmpireTecAndy ) and see what sort of deal he can provide you. ( unless Lorex has a great deal going on, he should be able to beat their prices most of the time imho )
Remember, with Andy you will get cameras and NVRs which retain the Dahua IVS features, which are nice. Also note, you will need to pick up good quality cat5e/6 cable as Andy's cameras and NVR come without cables and HDDs. Normally works better for me as I like to use quality Bulk Cat5e/6 cable.

Thanks Mat, I was planning on running my own quality cable so I don't have to drill large holes and can customize the length. Any real advantage to the slightly more expensive and bulky CAT6E?

I am currently placing an order with Andy for an NVR and a mix of cameras to test.
Currently looking at getting the following:

NVR NVR5208-8P-4KS2 or 16 channel version.
IPC-HDW2231R-ZS
IPC-HFW1831E 4.0 mm FL

Also looking at the more pricey models :
IPC-HDW5831R-ZE for an 8MP Turret
IPC-HDW5231R-ZE for a feature rich turret
IPC-HFW2831T-ZS - or -ZAS for sound

Your recommendations and insights welcome. I have read the cliff notes, wiki's and looked at all the reviews and still undecided on some of the more pricey cameras. I would like sound in a couple of location and do like the zoom for fine tuning the field of view.

Regards,

Yes, after scouring specifications from various rebranded systems from Lorex, Q-See, Swann (Hikvision) etc., it is very apparent that the rebranded units are dated and somewhat overpriced considering the inferior specifications.
However, I must say that many of the rebranded models come with support warranty and sofware integration as a selling feature for most non tech savvy consumers. Things such as automatic push firmware updates, transparent ubiquitous NAT for remote access via an account etc.

Hi @ScooterGeo

If you're going with the NVR, I recommend spending a bit more and getting the 16 channel version
Agreed!
Not sure I will every have the need for 16 cameras, but you never know ;-)
Other than more ePoe ports, it doesn't seem to be any hardware improvement between the entry level 8 and 16 channel units. I will have to research a bit more though.
WRT to cameras: I looked at a number of camera reviews and can't seem to decide between the IPC-HDW2231R-ZS and the HPC-HDW4231EM-ASE which look like very good camera for about the same price.
The 2231 has a brighter lens and zoom whereas the fixed lens 4231 has more IVA features, 60fps and 3 streams and a Mic.
