I did-- I verified the bottom label of the camera as the correct model number. The mini-spec sheet on the box is a separate label from the UPC/PN and SN label. He verified the B&H spec info matches the Dahua site, and said he believes the label is just misprinted.

So---- is there any software method of verifying the internal chip?

Yes, plug it in to your network and log into camera’s web interface via internet explorer default the camera address is 192.168.1.108
And check S/N

Where would it tell me what chipset is in it? SN matches the other label on the box which also identifies the camera as a N45DM62...

My old cams are a terrible frame of reference, but in a fully darkened room with light blocking drapes, mostly illuminated by my computer monitor.... looked like a normally lit room with this cam.

I believe we went through this before about Dahua USA redefining what starlight Is, It never said it has a "Starvis" sensor but starlight sensor. Clearly a progressive scan sensor meeting what their new Definition of what starlight is. I went through this when they pushed out the N22AL12.

I was somewhat more concerned with the size discrepancy. Size matters, as they say.... :cool: If they have a worthy piece of silicon in it that produces good video-- I don't care if Sony or Ambarella or whoever makes the thing.

That said-- I do get your point in Dahua playing little marketing word games with starlight, Starvis, or star-whatever.... kinda lame considering their market they sell to are specifications-driven techies....

that likely is true-- but their products eventually end up in the hands of people who will scrutinize and critique all aspects of them. Same net effect if they put garbage out there in a competitive market. I'll remain hopeful this camera isn't garbage.

They dont care about end users critiquing their cameras. We are a tiny insignificant portion of their sales. That camera will have the standard IR reflection issues that we often see in domes mounted outside.

I'm not referring to individual users-- but like other massive corporations, I agree with you that Dahua likely couldn't care less any given individual user... Sounds like we will simply disagree on the finer details on this-- though we are likely closer in our opinions than you may think.
 
Its time to do a tear down on these cameras. I wouldn't believe every spec that's listed out there. There have been typographical errors in the past on Dahua's website itself. I recommend you go through the thorough reviews posted on the ipcamtalk community before venturing out to buy (better yet, look at the ipcamtalk Cliff Notes listing the popular and verified reviews). Without adequate research. Its too much of a risk to take and really wastes your time. Be careful of marketing ploys too. The words powerful and Starlight don't go well together. However, powerful and Starlight+ do. Dahua is facing a tough time. Dahua Revenue Plunges, 3 Execs Resign
 
Good thing I returned my N22AL12. I wasn't going to fall for it.

I think it would be great if someone could do that. We always are at the mercy of what corporations list for product specs-- and that applies to all sorts of products. For me, I am in the process of doing some updates and changing out some old cams. You hit the nail on the head with seeking other information independent of manufacturers-- that's why I popped in here after so many years (I was here seeking info on a BI computer build in 2014). As for the current crop of cams, the core thing I kept reading across many posts here is that the 1/1.8 sensor size is a core component that many look for first..

As for the lux ratings down in the .00X range-- I did notice they seem to be playing games there by pushing the shutter speed to 1/3 of a second. Of course you can generate a better exposed image by making the shutter speed longer. I'm just not sure how you can get 15 or 20 or 30 fps when it takes 1/3 of a second to get one frame-- but perhaps someone here more knowledgeable about video frame rates and exposure can comment.

Mounted the camera today. The 2.8mm lens surprised me with how prominent the "fisheye" distortion is. Had not seen it like that on other 2.8mm lens cameras
I leave 2 outdoor lights on at night-- 60 watt-equivalent LED bulb. This photo far exceeds what I imagined the quality would be.
I have done NO adjustments to the stock camera image settings--- so what should I change? :)

Unfortunately, that distortion is there to stay. A 3.6mm lens would have mitigated that
