I installed first the Dahua app iDMSS Plus and then IMOU Life that in essence replicate Q-See Plus app. The serial number was scanned successfully and the camera identified properly. However, I'm not able to add camera to the wi-fi network. The apps properly identify the network but can't connect to the camera. 120 seconds of the search time expires with no connection. IMOU app also offers an alternative method of first connecting the phone to the camera's hotspot. Unfortunately, the phone doesn't see the hotspot/wifi created by the camera. Now I'm at a loss. tried to reset the camera to factory settings but no luck. Any ideas?
I am able to get to the very end but it fails on setting the password. I have used the Dahua App and the IMOU app. In the Dahua app, I add a device then choose other IPC at the bottom, in the IMOU app I choose the LOOC from the camera list.

I manually type in the serial number from the box (because my QR code is missing for some reason) then click next, put in my WIFI settings, it continues and the green light on the camera stops blinking, then it goes to a step to set the camera name and create a password. I put in both but it fails. It does it for both apps. I thought maybe it was trying to login with the default instead of "creating" a new one but all the defaults I have tried (admin/admin and admin/123456) fail also. Not sure what I am missing since all seems to go through, just fails to connect to the camera when trying to set the password. 4 new in the box cameras that I hope to be able to use. Once I can get into it I can set an IP and forward ports, I just need to be able to connect to it.

This is the camera I am trying to add. Same one from THIS post.

ANY help is appreciated. Thanks

I was using the 8 Channels HD QC 918 system and like many, I lost the ability to remote access while away from home. The simple solution: I replaced the QC DVR with a Zosi DVR and kept the same cameras. All is working perfect, I can now remote view my cameras while away from home.

fwiw - there probably was a way to do remote view without dumping the DVR you had...

basically
1) if you can view on LAN
2) block port forwarding for the DVR
3) setup VPN server on router or other LAN device
4) install VPN app on mobile device ..
5) VPN into your LAN ..

Although this seems like a good idea, I'm not too tech savvy to be able to pull this off.

FYI - if you are currently port forwarding, do expect to eventually be cyber hijacked ..
if you think they would be after you , your living in a dreamland. if you believe you are safe, did you remove the ADMIN Qsee account? gives free access to any cams.

Hi @RBurn

Sounds similar to those who say:
"Why would cyber criminals call your grand mother.. she knows nothing about computers .. "

Clearly you've not been paying attention to the world of cyber attacks .. and thus I see you wish to denigrate those who know more than you on this topic.

Why does an attacker want to cyberhijack you?
1) because they can. ( cyber "joyrides" )
2) because your IP devices and internet connectivity is useful for them to attack bigger fish. ( stealing your car to commit crimes, or stealing your ID to commit crimes )
3) because even you, have something of value for them to steal.. ( your ID, your bank accounts, your email accounts, .. etc.. )

Do not be the doubting Thomas on this ..

Hackers hijacking home routers to direct people to malicious coronavirus app

The attackers are changing DNS settings on Linksys routers to redirect users to a malicious website promising an informative COVID-19 app, says security provider BitDefender.

Hikvision Defaulted Devices Getting Hacked
By Brian Karas, Published Mar 02, 2017, 09:10am EST
Hikvision devices with default passwords and remote network access enabled (via DDNS, public IPs, etc.) have experienced wide spread hacking over the past month locking out users, IPVM has confirmed.

This is new, and from what has been reported by those affected, appears to be different than Mirai. During the Mirai botnet attacks in 2016, there were no reports of Hikvision devices being hacked.

I’m not sure how you come up with the word “denigrate” , look it up. My point is people spend to much time on things like this whereas the risk IMO as this is forwarding a port to a nvr and not a computer. Even with a vpn there are still dangers. If you have a lot of time on your hands and feel that having your nvr compromised is something you cannot live with then everyone owning Q-See nvr should go with a vpn or replace there equipment now as this equipment is no longer being supported or updated.

Take note on the following statements.
Can you get hacked through port forwarding? Yes. If you take security precautions, is it likely? Not really.

Hi @RBurn

Your initial statement was: if you think they would be after you , your living in a dreamland.

That is clearly not the case, as cyber attacks are reaching in the homes of of those connected to the internet.

Yes, port forwarding and exposed services to all are a significant IT security issue.

NVR = a computer .. just not getting updated as frequently as a proper PC that is within the OS support window.

Sir, I don't even know what port forwarding is lol. I'm sure I'm not port forwarding so I think I should be safe from being cyber hijacked.

Hi @EMS Shadow

You need to turn off on your router: UPNP, P2P, and in general block access .. see the VPN notes, as often IP IoT / Camera devices are designed to break out of your home network and connect externally.
( basically, "make it work by being less secure" )

You clearly have a lot of time on your hands lol… enjoy!
Here you are @RBurn

Just posted today on the forum (8/29/2021):

In a perfect world he would know Open VPN also, as when i had my first camera it was online and got hacked. Kids no doubt, they closed the camera iris about 4 stops, changed the title to “hacked”, and changed the password for good measure. - Rick Simonton

QED

fwiw - the assumption it was kids, however we really do not know.

I bought a Q-SeeHD system at Costco about 5 years ago. The recorder is model QTH81. The app that I used to monitor things stopped working (i.e. it continually rejected my username/password), which led me here and the news that Q-See has closed up shop.

What can I do to continue recording and monitoring from my cameras? I'm fine with replacing the DVR if needed.

And what about the recordings that are currently on the DVR - can I still access them and play them back?

welcome @brijazz

if the dvr / nvr still works, and its just the remote access that is not working, look at the vpn notes in the wiki ..

this question btw should have been already addressed in this tread ..

I did look through the thread, but it's not just the remote access that's not working - I can't access recordings that already exist on the DVR, which is a bigger concern for me at the moment. The app had logged me out and rejects my username/password when I try to log back in. Any suggestions?

You need to use a different app such as DMSS. One of my NVRs is a Q-see and it's working fine through any app other than Q-See view. if tried a bunch but like DMSS.

Hi brijazz,

Questions:
1) On the DVR / NVR ... using an attached monitor and mouse .. CAN YOU SEE the recordings?
2) Or are you having issues with your mobile device and the app on your mobile device?

I just noticed it's BNC not IP. mat200 knows better than me but I believe you have to start over with IP stuff. I just threw all my Q-see BNC cameras and NVRs in the trash.
