hahah, I havent forgotten about you guys. This camera is very 'UNIQUE' and I've already taken night caps in prep for my review along with a (I think) cool and certainly creative way of showing how this cam works :) I'll be aiming to start posting the thread early this week and letting you know my thoughts etc on this new one. Stay tuned ! :)

Nice to hear that, I was unable to take a pictures today but will try tomorrow after work. I took one camera apart but cant figure out how to adjust the lens it seems like there is two tiny screws on each side of the lens and some glue but it really doesn‘t look like there is a thread more like it just slides in and out.
@misio9 Any update on your focus issues? The focus on these cams has me somewhat concerned. The focus as show by @Wildcat_1 videos has a seems lot of issues past a short distance.

@vidmo the image has improved due to Dahua dialing down the AA in the new test 21-09-08 FW. This is in beta right now but definitely makes an improvement to this 4K line. There is also the option of the 2.8 which as I showed above also gives further options

@misio9 Did you manage to refocus your lens if not can you test 21-09-08 FW and let us know if the focus is any better.

@Wildcat_1 can you explain to the ignorant newbie what you meant more specifically in relation to the focus issue? Were you referring to the 2.8mm lens version or _? Also, in your opinion, would the 2.8 or 3.Xmm version of this cam perform better as an overwatch cam with short 40-60 foot or so ranges and medium to 0 ambient light at night (solar lights are present at the moment and on poor weather days they quit about 1 am. This will be addressed in the future..I intend to add the dual sensor version you reviewed as I think if they can iron out the image fusion issues in the firmware those would be perfect for my install environment. Thoughts?

This camera will be no different to any other 2.8 or 3.6mm cam on the market. The main difference is in night vision. If you need to determine an identification distance, I suggest you use one of the focal length calulation tools to work out what fov you require. Failing that, another camera with a varifocal lens mounted temporarily in the position your considering, should give you the answer your seeking. 4mp is 4mp. No magic improvement to night vision will make it see or recognise further than it's in focus depth. A 2mp will see far further than a 4mp camera with the correct zoom - it's the zoom making that happen. The distance a camera has recognisable images is determined by the pixel density of the image and that in turn is dictated by the fov. So in simple terms, the wider angle the lens, the lower the pixel density and the closer the subject has to be to the camera to be recognisable.

@Ace844
In addition to what I mentioned above, remember that this range of cams has a shallow depth of field as I discussed before so critical adjustment at the factory plays a big role in overall image too. As mentioned above, in my testing the 2.8 still has the edge between it and the 3.6 even when taking into account focal length etc.

For your stated range of 40-60 there is very little between these 2 focal lengths. Therefore as an overwatch you could use either. The bigger question is really around at what distance you want to ID using this and therefore close focus distance will become a critical point. In reality there is about a 4 to 6 feet difference in close focus point on these 2 so bear that in mind. If you do have a previous varifocal you can use to judge ideal focal point OR another 2.8/3.6 then that can help solidify as well.

Definitely make sure you weigh your chosen cam against distance to target and the other factors I and others have listed before such as light on scene (especially for night), install location etc. As stated many times, you definitely want / need some light on scene so if you will be addressing the solar lights soon then that will help but again remember light is important

As I also mentioned, the backend tweaks to AA in the 21-09-08 test FW also make a positive difference to this series and do improve the image so you will also benefit from that once it’s finally released. Bugs are still being worked on but the FW is getting closer by each release which is good.

At the end of the day this cam is a solid offering and if it fits for your application needs and location then I think you will be pleased. The dual lens ‘fusion’ cam is also a good choice and once the alignment piece is sorted (already tested 1 new FW for it but still needs work), will be a great addition to a number of install scenarios especially those with low light as I showed in my review.

As always, if you need any assistance then just reach out.

I have a Mount question...We have Hardie board Soffits, they are I believe 1/4 inch thick, so what is the best way to mount the PFA-130E Mount? Installing a 5442 Turret...

Thanks

My neighbor mounted his PTZ with just regular screws into that soffit and it has been fine, so I think the 5442 turret would be fine as well.

You could also use Molly bolts. Those plastic anchors are meant for sheetrock/concrete, not 1/4" composites. Four Molly's or toggle bolts and you could hang off of the camera as long as th soffit was properly installed.

Like I said, my neighbor hung a much heavier PTZ with frequent movement on that soffit and just straight screwed into it with no anchors or toggle bolts and it has been rock solid.

If a PTZ moving around all the time hasn't pulled off the soffit, I think it would hold a 5442 turret just fine.

Heck, I mounted my first 5231 to a vinyl soffit using fur #8x1" sheet metal screws. It hasn't moved in three years.
