@Wildcat_1 can you explain to the ignorant newbie what you meant more specifically in relation to the focus issue? Were you referring to the 2.8mm lens version or
_? Also, in your opinion, would the 2.8 or 3.Xmm version of this cam perform better as an overwatch cam with short 40-60 foot or so ranges and medium to 0 ambient light at night (solar lights are present at the moment and on poor weather days they quit about 1 am. This will be addressed in the future..I intend to add the dual sensor version you reviewed as I think if they can iron out the image fusion issues in the firmware those would be perfect for my install environment. Thoughts?
@Ace844
In addition to what I mentioned above, remember that this range of cams has a shallow depth of field as I discussed before so critical adjustment at the factory plays a big role in overall image too. As mentioned above, in my testing the 2.8 still has the edge between it and the 3.6 even when taking into account focal length etc.
For your stated range of 40-60 there is very little between these 2 focal lengths. Therefore as an overwatch you could use either. The bigger question is really around at what distance you want to ID using this and therefore close focus distance will become a critical point. In reality there is about a 4 to 6 feet difference in close focus point on these 2 so bear that in mind. If you do have a previous varifocal you can use to judge ideal focal point OR another 2.8/3.6 then that can help solidify as well.
Definitely make sure you weigh your chosen cam against distance to target and the other factors I and others have listed before such as light on scene (especially for night), install location etc. As stated many times, you definitely want / need some light on scene so if you will be addressing the solar lights soon then that will help but again remember light is important
As I also mentioned, the backend tweaks to AA in the 21-09-08 test FW also make a positive difference to this series and do improve the image so you will also benefit from that once it’s finally released. Bugs are still being worked on but the FW is getting closer by each release which is good.
At the end of the day this cam is a solid offering and if it fits for your application needs and location then I think you will be pleased. The dual lens ‘fusion’ cam is also a good choice and once the alignment piece is sorted (already tested 1 new FW for it but still needs work), will be a great addition to a number of install scenarios especially those with low light as I showed in my review.
As always, if you need any assistance then just reach out.
