I used a
Wiggy® type tester for many motor and lighting line or load-side wiring "go or no-go" tests (not control side wiring) to check for voltage after opening a disconnect, or breaker or pulling a fuse. But the very FIRST thing I would do, and do it EVERY time, was to test the tester to insure it detected an energized line.
