Hi guys, been a while. My POS Foscam indoor finally died. Interested in a new "Wireless" camera. Sorry to be lazy and didn't spend a lot of time looking but.... Is there a starlight available in wireless? If not, can anyone recommend a decent one? Love the other starlights I have. (5231)

As far as I can tell, all the standard wifi enabled network cameras fall under their consumer line which does not offer a Starlight camera. There is a wifi enabled version of the "Black Face" Lite PTZ (SD49225T-HN-W) which is a Starlight model, but I suspect that is not what you're looking for. :)

Run ethernet or use something like MoCa or HomePlug.

Wired (PoE) is the best option for cameras if you can do so. I use a combination of MoCa (IP over coax) and powerline adapters (IP over electrical wiring) in places that don't have easy access to ethernet inside my house. You can also run cable ouside the house instead of through the walls if you need to (that is what I had to do in some areas.)

Is the DH-IPC-HDW42A1EN (US-model) same as IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE?

Looks like Andy is having a %5 off sale, is there NTSC firmware available for all the Dahua cameras?

No they are not. Don't use domes outdoors if you can avoid it, they have all sorts of problems with reflections, especially as they age.
Which would be suitable? Bullet cam for outdoors? Im considering dome but it will be undercover

Turrets are very popular for outside. Great mounting flexibility and great night time picture.

How do you prefer placement of the set screw? Is there a particular orientation you prefer to prevent tampering or accidental contact?

Turrets, domes have many issues, and turrets have lost less problems with spiders then bullets.

Pardon the vernacular tone, but I hear the consensus is that domes suck, does this hold true in every situation when it boils down to camera type selection?

Yes, the model dome camera matters. I have all turret cameras outside except one mini dome in my outdoor covered patio where I wanted a less obvious form factor. It is a Dahua IPC-HDBW4231F-AS and it has the same great low light sensor as the IPC-HDW5231R-Z turret, though without the varifocal F1.4 lens. There is no IR light ghosting from the dome and I have zero problems with bugs or spiders here in southeast Florida. It is a great option for front door or other public spaces where a less obvious camera is needed.

If exposed to the sun, as they age all sorts of ugly reflection issues can happen. Water spots, scratches, dirt on the dome all can cause problems at any time.

I'm assuming this phenomena applies to turret-like domes as well (the ones that have IR LED's surrounding the lens)

How do we mount the IPC-HDBW4231F-AS (mini-wedge)? I was thinking about mounting this off a drop ceiling. Is there separate hardware I'd have to purchase?
