Maybe I'm in the wrong forum. Maybe I'm talking happy feelings about my new car with a bunch of car engineers and I should be just in a forum with noobs happy about their new car. Still I'm pretty sure so far I got the car and the cam I wanted but I couldn't tell you all the specs of my car or this $70 cam neither do I want to spend more time on it.
Jesus Christ, very few people here are professionals. Most folks are homeowners not looking to overspend on their kit, just like you. Nobody asked you to open the camera, dig out a magnifying glass and try go figure out what the freaking chipset is. You were simply asked if the unofficially modified firmware on your camera has support for a feature.

You are on the wrong forum if you can't spare 2-3 minutes to login to your camera's web interface and answer a question that someone has. AFAIK, you're the only person here who's purchased from this seller, so you're the only person here that can answer questions about what the special firmware that ships on his cameras is like.

Indeed I'm at the wrong forum. I don't know how to check for that feature and I'm not going to spend time on that now to feed some self-acknowledged paranoia. At least it makes sense now where this hostility is coming from. If people had had a better attitude I might have taken the time to tinker with this. It's laughable to think of me as an undercover agent for some eBay vendor, aka a fraudster...oh well, one learns something new every day.

There are only two possible options here: if I was a fraudster, well deserved treatment. If I'm indeed what I've portrayed myself to be then you have been hostile to as you well say an unsuspecting person. Speaking of which, big thank you @tigerwillow1, you have treated me nicely and given me some good info. To everyone else please forget anything I said, didn't mean to make you feel like I was taking your legos. In another thread, Fenderman, a staff member !!! says, you know nothing about ip cameras because I thought SCW made good stuff, this after ackowledging I'm a noob...but this makes sense now...gotta love paranoia.

Good bye, wish you all the best.

Hi @Truth

1) It is not paranoia if it regularly occurs. Your characterization of the concerns expressed w/regards to fraud and malicious behavior by vendors is an attitude issue and hostile imho.
2) W/regards to attitude - sometimes you should review your participation in it.
3) Cars - yes, you have a nice new car to play with - now as again the question remains - Did you get what the vendor specified / advertised? Or have you been defrauded in some way? As a noob you seem to believe you did get what was promised. As someone watching numerous misrepresentations by vendors I suspect you may not have. I suspect you got a lower end Toyota instead of a higher end one. You can do tests to see if your car has power windows, AC, GPS, and go down the list of the specs and check off what you can w/o needing to be a car mechanic or an engineer.
4) Comparing specs - we need good authoritative sources to compare specs. We can find that spec info for international models and USA market models from Dahua. Finding that information for Chinese market cameras is a greater challenge for those of us who do not read Chinese. ( In this case it is clear that the vendor is lose on quality controls on their Ads - and thus certainly you should not trust their specs )

What exactly is "Starlight"?
Reason I ask is because some websites list a camera as having Starlight and some don't mention Starlight at all. same exact model in both cases.
TIA

I'm always afraid to answer questions like this because any little honest mistake draws personal insults. But here goes, to the best of my knowledge, limited to 2 and 4 megapixel Dahua cameras. Starlight is a term used for cameras with superior low light performance as compared to non-Starlight cameras. (1) Starlight cameras use a 1/2.8" 2 megapixel sensor that gives significantly better low light performance than those with other sensors. (2) Some 2 megapixel cameras are Starlight, some aren't. It depends on the sensor. (3) None of the current or past 4 megapixel cameras are Starlight. (4) Ads for Chinese market 4 megapixel cameras often claim that they are Starlight, this is not correct. The sensors are 1/3" in size, and they are simply ok cameras that give good daytime images and non-Starlight low light images. (5) I've not seen international market cameras falsely advertised as Starlight, but it could happen. If it's 4 megapixels, it's not Starlight.

Tigerwillow is correct, Starlight means the camera "sees" better without the aid of IR lighting so you can see distant objects better. Even on cameras that offer IR lights you will get better night performance from a Starlight camera. It is best to buy from @EMPIRETECANDY rather than random websites since you know what you are getting from Andy will allow firmware upgrades and meet the specs listed on the Dahuasecurity.com international site.

Hi,
I would like to bring my experience.
I bought 4 Dahua IPC-HDW4433C-A from this Chinese retailer, Network Camera (Network Camera - Small Orders Online Store, Hot Selling and more on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group). after 20 days the first camera started showing the first problems, shooting at random intervals, and one week it stopped working. The second camera after 40 days burned the LED diode and showed a deterioration on the sensor of repreca that after 10 days became completely black.
The other 2 camera, after about 3 months still work, but the quality is really poor.
I have IP cam bought for less than € 30 in the Italian store and make it better, in addition to the fact that they have been working for over 2 years.
I forgot, no updates available, so either it works or poor us.
This is my experience.
As for the Chinese guarantee, put a stone on it.

you learned the hard way not to but hacked china region cameras. Your €30 camera is likely garbage too, but you dont know any better to realize.

I also learned the hard way. Order two Dahua cameras, one came with problems in the auto-iris (reddish). Too expensive for shipping back to exchange. Next time, order through Andy.

I have used many of the 4431C-A and had to focus approx 2 out of 5 of them each order. Basically in every order there are usually a few out of focus especially the 2.8mm models. Used pliers to break the glue by twisting the lens, then focus - it stays in place, or use super glue after to be certain. Anyway, this is very common with those cameras.
I agree some item bad focus but can fix, I use Hair dryer and twisting the lens
