How do I setup my VPN so I am not just pointing it to my house from my laptop (remote)? Help me make this secure (OpenVPN to view my QNAP from laptop)

Thank you, I think I'm following -- so with OpenVPN I am basically relying on my home PC to be clean and all traffic will flow through that, so assuming my home connection is secure so will the device I'm using remotely? Going back to the QNAP, when you say directly connected to the internet...

The MT-3000 has TailScale built in along with ZeroTier. The AX86U can also be modified to host TailScale. The AX86U is connected...

    Starlink and Amcrest IP cams....

Try Zerotier or Tailscale Don't be surprised if NO-IP screws you in the near future. I've had their "Enhanced Dynamic DNS" with up to 25 hostnames for 10 years, since Nov. 2013. They billed my credit card $22 every month and in 2016 it went up to $24.95 per month...no problem. It remained at...

Second home set up in Blue Iris

Fab - sincere thanks all. I think I have come down to two options: 1. Use Tailscale and see if I can set up a site to site VPN. Use BI on the main site with a PC, link the second site and tie the cameras in to site 1 VPN 2. Set up BI on separate PCs at each site - but this would mean...

    Requesting advice on new installation

Welcome @folk Looks like you've done some good research already .. my quick take on this .. as you are in Norway, low light performance matters. Thus I would try the 8MP 1/1.2" or 4MP 1/1.8" sensor models .. and also, many of us do not like dome cameras outdoors due to UV / heat exposure. As...

+1 Tailscale I actually run Tailscale on my pfSense firewall. You can even configure an Apple TV 4K (tvOS 17+) as a Tailscale exit node and sub-net router.

can`t view hikvision cam`s and dvr outside the network

IIRC, Starlink employs CGNAT so no public-facing IP is available, at least not with IPv4. Being that you're wanting to access a NVR, I'm thinking you could install Tailscale or ZeroTier on a compatible GL.iNET router and access it remotely that way.

    Zerotier help needed

I do not keep the ZT app on all the time. I only toggle it on when I want to use the BI app on my phone. I have found that having the ZT app running 24/7 does drain the battery quite a bit. We have another long trip coming up soon, so I think I am going to setup Tailscale to try it out.
