    New & Frustrated

I had cameras installed in new construction in 2016. My plate was full so I trusted the person that recommended/installed/etc... I am not saying they did nothing wrong though. However, I feel the quality of picture I’m getting and the functionality is lacking. Mostly the quality of picture and...

Hardware recommendations for 50 camera system

Um. No. You don't. In fact, an electrician is probably the LAST trade you want anywhere near datacom lines. I'd rather have a plumber do it - at least they know what a minimum bend radius is. Want some horror stories about new construction prewire jobs done by the contracted electricians and...

Camera System Recommendation - New Home Construction

If you decide to go w/an Dahua OEM NVR - I prefer the NVR5216-16P-4KS2x series - it is not much more than the 8 port version, better model than the 4xxx FYI - the purpose to run N+1 cables to each location is multiple: 1) You'll often find you want to install just one more camera in a...

New House Setup and Camera Placement on a Sloping Grade

I'm doing a whole-home reno and an addition (basically all new construction at this point), and I'm about to have cable run for cameras. I've spent way, way too long reading and planning and now I need to give the OK on final placement. The front & sides are kinda straightforward, but the...

    Suggestions for US Dahua Camera

Welcome Mercfh, "I've checked out the cliffnotes, and basically i've heard that turrets are better than Domes or Bullets. I like the look of Domes and Bullets better...are they that bad? " The cliff notes represent a significant amount of invested time to create from the knowledge and...

Looking for some guidance from the brain trust for actual camera selection based upon our layout and known distances. This is a new construction, the known distances are identified in red. For example, from the cameras to the rear of the house to the road are 150' from the road. The rear cameras...

Cabinet Installed for large home install, Plus prewire pics

i'm not an HVAC , builder, construction ..etc anything. so this is just an amateur observation. that said, seeing soft ducts and some of the other "styles" of how wiring is run ..etc reminds me of when I was seeing it in TX and NC. New construction I've seen within Colorado lately I always saw...

How to install recessed dome only partially recessed in soffit

interesting thread. Question though.....won't looney's idea not work? I see OP's post as a before and after. I could be mistaken but doesn't looney's suggestion show the camera behind the triple 2x12 girder and 6x6 post? I wonder if you can use a standard 7 or 8" recessed lighting for new...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

It’s not the voltage you need to worry about as much as long as it’s 16-24v. What you need to check is the VA rating of the transformer. If it’s a 10va like most new Home builds uses, it’s too small. It will likely work but you may have issues at times. There are numerous forum posts for all...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I doubt I need a new transformer. This is a new construction house and others in the neighborhood installed the nest doorbell and ring pro without replacing the transformer. I will try and check the voltage when I get home tonight.

How to properly wire/mount cameras... new construction

I'd prewire for outdoor motion sensors in a few key locations. Wiring to media or office locations is pretty important. It is possible to over do it on the wiring, but running more wires than you think you need is good advice. The builder will probably want you to do low voltage cabling after...

...don't wan't to just see the tops of heads. Mounting a camera higher can make sense in some situations, but a lens with more zoom and looking farther away is necessary for best results. How to properly wire/mount cameras... new construction

Building a new home and I will be running IP camera wiring very soon now that framing is done. What is the proper way to terminate the wire outside under the soffit. Should I install a low voltage box and then use a cover plate with RJ45 keystone or should I just run the wire straight to the...

New construction IR illuminators install advice

Building a new house. Framing is about done and I want to get a plan together on how best to power the IR illuminators I want to install for each area. Since pulling cables is easy at this point, what would be the best solution? My initial thought is to locate the illuminator in a different...

    Neighbors house blows up

Camera Install Height on New Construction?

Hi all, Have a newly constructed house that I just got the keys to. I didn't get a chance to do anything while the house was being built by the builder so have to do all my wiring work now. I know the NVR from them is fully ONVIF (profile S) compliant so that end is fine. If its their cameras that should not matter as long as I can still use other cameras as well. tangent, Thank you for your response and interest in helping. FYI, this is a new construction and I have not move in yet. I did the pre-wiring during building phase. So, this is just pre-wire; no installation yet. All wires are centralized on a rack that is going to be localized in the Bonus...

    New member thanks to Mat200

Hi Digdoug, Remember those cameras give you about 25 feet to the 100 ppf point ( aka ID distance ) during daylight conditions ( in theory ). Also remember you can add 2 Dahua OEM starlights to the kit if needed to cover the spots which need better low light coverage.

Hi there - I'm so glad I found this forum! I've been wanting to do a project like this for some time, but I wasn't too sure how to get started. Good news: I work in IT and like to tinker. Bad news: my extent of IP camera/security experience is little to none. I have an decently rated wireless...

Need help determining which camera(s) I should buy

You really don't need to decide on the exact camera or nvr models yet. It might be helpful to have 1 camera on hand, but don't focus on the electronics fun as they may be. You need to focus on the cabling and installation locations including other interior networking and cabling. The cabling...

This cannot be emphasized enough. Wire is cheaper and faster than fighting with Wireless. (Especially if you have neighbors close.) And if you are talking about new construction, there shouldn't be much of a cost difference between running 2 wires and running more. If your builder wants to...
