Looking for which cameras to pair with my Unifi home system. Go Unifi or 3rd Party + BI?

I would suggest buying a cheap unifi cloud gateway Max then testing it with a single unifi camera to see if it has the features you need.... There are many things you can do with Blue Iris that you cannot do with protect on the other hand if you're not using any of those features in Blue Iris...

Is this okay for Blue Iris.

An I-5 8500 will be more than sufficient... But if you have the extra money look at something even newer because you're going to put time and effort into setting the system up and you don't want to be starting with a eight or even 7-year-old system today...

Is this okay for Blue Iris.

The system does not meet Microsoft requirements for w11. You can do a simply google search and see that. For intel processors it MUST be 8th gen or above. There are workaround that the seller might by using but MS could plug those holes and you will be screwed when you need to reinstall. You...

This will not run w11...-you need 8th gen ..8th gen is also much more powerful than 7th.

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Just got my cloud gateway max today....I understand onvif is not fully baked and there are issues with triggers on motion etc so its a bit early on that end but im curious to see the other features and functions of protect. I dont think they could pull onvif support after advertising this way....

WD Purple as Windows system drive?

Your experience without an ssd will be bad. You want a pc that allows at least one ssd and one hdd. The ssd is particularly important for the database file.

    blue Iris OS

Again you are conflating two legal issues. This is common with internet lawyering. 1) Selling your legally purchased software to another after you deactivate your copy - which appears to be legal in europe, though I have not searched for newer decisions. 2) Buying software in bulk with...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

He is likely referring to this. Ubiquiti Kills Any Hope Of Open Platform Video - IPVM Discussions Which is actually worse because they sold the cameras with rtsp support and just removed it. They can easily do it here as it is beta. They make a good product that is not obscenely overpriced so...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

This is the biggest problem. They can remove it on a whim. More competition is always good and if they add the ability to get human/vehicle triggers from onvif cams it would be great. That said I Just ordered the cloud max to play with. Unifi also has some unique interior camera designs. Their...

    blue Iris OS

It's 100% unlawful... Otherwise Microsoft would not be able to sell a single license in the EU at anywhere near full price.... These licenses are not meant for individual resale..

    blue Iris OS

They are not selling used licenses. They are selling licenses sold as bulk to large corporations to end users like you...it is not legal anywhere.

These are not legit legal key even if they work. MS is not selling keys for 13 bux. There is irony is stealing an OS to protect your own property from thieves.

    POE Switch Question

Be careful with no name switches, they can cause issues that will haunt you and waste hours of your time. You will not saturate your connections with your current setup. I would also not trust a no name brand of network gear for security reasons.

No audio in timeline or export

Think about it, do you really believe that we have not been able to export video with audio since 2022? This function has been available since October of 2022 - you must have 5.6.3 or later. Also, your statement makes no sense. "I need to export multiple videos via timeline view because I need...

I think I'm going to grab the cloud gateway max to Play with protect... Probably just keep the ultra as a backup for an emergency router or just return it... Ubiquiti Networks Cloud Gateway Ultra

Got the U6+ wifi access point. Nicely built and its plug and play. Easily setup 5 different ssids and assigned each to a different vlan. This is by far the best setup I have seen for $250. Very polished, fast and lots of options. The learning curve is a steeper than the synology rt6600ax router...
