    Better hard drive?

You may get better write performance using two drives. I've had bad luck with multiple Seagate drives and prefer the WD Purples.

    Static address ?

The problem you have is more than routing. These consumer devices are FIREWALLS too (read up on Stateful Packet Inspection and NAT). They will block all external traffic and only pass traffic that originates from the LAN side. In your case, the 192.168.2.0 network will be untrusted by routers X...

    Static address ?

Sounds like you are overcomplicating your network and making it difficult to manage. Does your ISP provided router allow creating Vlans ?. It may be better to configure different subnets per port if possible. Another option is to consider a Layer 3 switch. To create static routes you would...

Problem with vpn while on separate WiFi

Good technical discussion here. Agree on the above, but after successful connection then what happens ?. Yes my response may have been a little simplistic. The original poster mentioned they can connect to the VPN but not connect to their local Lan afterwards. I agree that split tunneling may...

Problem with vpn while on separate WiFi

Are you using a commonly used subnet such as 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x? If the wifi you are connecting to uses the same, then routing will fail. For those setting up openVPN this warning is explicitly mentioned in their setup documentation. You should probably reconfigure your own subnet to...

Xprotect Smart Client takes too long to load.

Try IP's/computer in the hosts file on both machines because they resolve against each other. Fair enough, Also check the time is closely synchronised between recorder and smart client machine.

Xprotect Smart Client takes too long to load.

Edit the hosts file in here - c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Just put the IP addresses and names of the 2x machines one on each line, then do the same on the other computer. ip 1 Computer1 IP2 Computer2 The hosts file will help the computer locate other devices on the network (similar...

Xprotect Smart Client takes too long to load.

Try adding the hosts entries, not too much effort. See if that helps.

Xprotect Smart Client takes too long to load.

Could be a name resolution issue. How are you connecting on the smart client? Computename\user ? Try adding the hostnames in the hosts file on both machines of each device.

    VLAN design example

Nice post Reflection. Here's a question for you- Is there a performance penalty for traffic that goes across the vlans internal to the switch ?. My understanding is that the traffic between vlans goes via the switch CPU which may impact performance compared to traffic in the same vlan/broadcast...

    uniview firmware

If the camera or existing firmware is relatively new there may be a cloud upgrade button on the maintenance page. Try using that while your camera has internet connectivity (reconfigure temporarily if necessary). Alternatively if you've purchased it from a reputable supplier they should be able...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

Right, OpenVPN is working, move on from the Asus. Does OpenVPN connect successfully from your mobile connection ? If not, -Check you are using the correct WAN IP address when testing OpenVPN via 4G (google what's my ip) -Check to see your port forward rule is working for port 1194 (I like to...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

From your point 3, "3.As per your advice I did try this and was able to access my BI machine while connected thru the VPN" You mentioned you can see the BI server ?, is that correct ?. Someone with OpenVPN on an Asus router may be able to assist further. I'm pretty sure it doesn't require...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

It means you are making progress. I assume you mean via the ISP wireless LAN?, your OpenVPN is configured and operational. good, your Lan connectivity works. If that is the case, can you not see your BI machine ?. Are you connected via 4G ?, disable wifi on your phone. Ensure you are...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

The Port forward rule on the ISP modem WAN IP/port 1194 should forward to internal Asus 192.168.0.137/port 1194 (udp, or tcp&udp). This way, OpenVPN traffic hits the Asus router. If OpenVPN on the Asus is configured correctly, you should then be able to see your Blue Iris machine and other hosts...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

Can you post a network diagram?. The LAN side of the ASUS will not be able to see the LAN side of your ISP router when on the DMZ. That's why I mentioned keeping only the cctv items there. Another and perhaps better option might be to place the Asus modem behind the ISP modem, A LAN port from...

DMZ or Disable NAT on router? (double NAT situation)

The DMZ feature effectively exposes hosts to the internet (eg a web server), it's not really meant to be for putting your asus router there, but it may work. If you were to do that, I would only do it for your CCTV equipment not your entire LAN. I don't think you can disable the firewall...

    Hello Uniview Owners

I recently bought the same model. It has some good features but overall I am disappointed with this camera. Two items I'm not happy with - 1. ALPR setup advice (see pictures)

Forget about megapixels, use LOTS of zoom, the more the better, probably a 12-20mm lens. I would mount it on the house somewhere, point it straight down the driveway towards the tree. When you say ALPR, what exactly do you mean ?. My suggestion will most likely allow you to read the plates but...

PLZ HELP. Cant connect to HIK cameras on ipv4 but can on internal nic

The 192.168.254.x addresses on the cameras are auto configured by the NVR, this is normal. Your laptop should NOT be plugged into the NVR POE ports. Connect it to your router. You should then be able to connect the the NVR IP address of 192.168.1.108

BI Remote Viewing via WAN address. 2 servers, one works the other doesnt

If you are establishing a remote access VPN connection then you are effectively connected to you LAN. You don't need to connect to your wan address:8082 Once the VPN is connected, try connecting via the internal IP address 192.168.30.4:82
