easiest thing I can't figure out!

i have 8 cameras and want to extend the length of time each camera holds recorded video. It's stupid simple and I just can't figure it out. What I've done is camera properties>record>video continuous> then change the hours to 128 and GB to 60 in the below in 'options' box. I can do 60gb per...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Just a quick comment from someone who barely has any time with this camera and Blue iris... First of all I was lucky enough to pickup 5 brand new dahua cams, 1 used Dahua and 2 used Hikvision cams off craigslist. I also bought a single IPC-HDW5231R-Z to try out. So far in placing the cameras...

Dahua HDW4421EMP reset button location with pics

So I ordered the 5231's and some others as my core cameras. Yesterday I saw a craiglist as that had some Poe cams and thought what the heck, get em and work with it. 2 are hikvision and 1 dahua. Both Hikvisions had to be reset, so whoever did the hack is a hero. Both Hikvisions have awesome...

Fortunately it's the only wire I spliced. Easy change Fortunately I went with good cams, computer and solid copper. Haven't wired a single cam yet.

Mbps drop over 100ft cat6 run?

I've run power and data to the shop and house. I built both, I've got the distance down pretty accurately. If you meant speed measurement, I used the same MacBook Pro on each Ethernet cable. So same computer. I used cox communications web speed check.

Mbps drop over 100ft cat6 run?

I did wire it by matching the colors. :/ I have no idea why that's a bad idea. Obviously a noob in every since, but I'll try to figure it out. Bare with me, I'm going from a hands off qsee do doing a whole system on my own with no experience. Just ordered dahua and hikvision cams. Pretty excited.

Mbps drop over 100ft cat6 run?

im getting 48mbps at the computer with a 8ft Ethernet cord. 100 ft run single cable cat6 it's at 12mbps. This isn't normal I'm guessing. Likely my crimp job on the rj45's? Anyone else see this with a bad crimp? I get 16mbps on the wireless router at the beginning of the 100ft run. I'm going to...

Splices in the cable for the PoE switch and cameras? Pic included

Thanks everyone. I ran a single line cat6 all the way. Next question, why would I go from 50mbps near the router all the way down to 12mbps after the 100 ft run. My guess is a bad crimp job on the rj45 connector?

Splices in the cable for the PoE switch and cameras? Pic included

Im about to run cat6 from the house to the shop and before going through the underground pipe I notice this big communications wire. Its from the telephone connection we had and gave up a few years back. The cable is dormant but looks stout with a bunch of wires. Would it be good practice to...

    Shielded or unshielded

im running a 75 foot cat5 or 6 in an underground pipe to a shop. I thought the pipe crossed over the power pipe in one place, but I just realized it runs parallel the whole distance. The pipe for the data is 1ft down and the power is 2 ft with 00 cable supplying the 200amp service in the house...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Quick question about this camera. I live in an area that is very well lit up at night. There is really no place you cant see due to the ambient light. Im in the middle of a big city with commercial area behind, street lights and etc. . Does the starlight version offer any real advantage if...

    HDW5231R-Z in direct sun?

im buying a couple of these but will be mounting one where it will sit in the hot sun at least half of the day. This is in phoenix az where the sun rarely goes away and this camera will heat up hot to the touch in the summer. Just curious if there's been issues with sun exposure.

Cheap IP cam for Blue Iris on Amazon or etc?

With my commitment to upgrade the system from an old 600tvl Q-see, Ive invested in the Blue Iris IP cam setup. Im purchasing 2 Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras as well as the dedicated desktop, PoE switches, wiring and etc. Needless to say the budget is near the max for this, but I prefer to add to...

Quick opinion needed - replacing old Q-see

Great, and thanks again! I will probably do the two switches since pulling 4 cables will be tough and risk cutting a length too short only to find out after its been pulled. Just a quick question, the plastic underground cable pipe crosses over a larger pipe carrying 200amp 00 copper wire...

Quick opinion needed - replacing old Q-see

Thats what I was thinking could be done. A 4/4 POE port in the shop and another one in the house for the house cameras. Then the single Cat5e cable running underground to the house router which connects the 2 PoE ports. I attached a diagram. Also, whats the issue with the Dahua "international...

Quick opinion needed - replacing old Q-see

Thanks again Just to confirm, each camera will need a full length dedicated cat5e or cat6 cable? I have a 100ft underground pipe to the shop and wil be putting 3, maybe 4 cameras on that building so Im preparring to run 4 individual cat5e/cat6 cables through the underground pipe. Unless theres...

Quick opinion needed - replacing old Q-see

Question, in the shop above I have a router already connected by cat5 to the house. If I use wall power for the cameras can I plug in to the router or do I need to run cat5 all the way back to the house? I guess what i can't seem to figure out is do I have to have a poe switch if all the...

Thank you! So far I have peiced together these (potential) items. Im trying my best to keep cost down, somewhat comparable to the reolink system plus 2 cams. Here's a possible system for the Blue Iris - DELL OPTIPLEX 9020 i5 Quad Core DESKTOP and - Dell 7010 i-5 desktop FAST !!! Cheaper the...

Quick opinion needed - replacing old Q-see

I replacing a 6 camera system at home. Nothing intense in terms of needs, just want to keep a good eye out and add features if possible from the last (crappy) system. Old system was a 600tvl Q-see. So Im thinking a Reolink 8ch 4 camera system off Amazon then pickup two cameras or buying a...
