    camera access with OpenVPN

I solved my problem by using Hikvision IVMS-4500 on the iPhone. I now have full remote access to the NVR.

    camera access with OpenVPN

I have successfully set up an OpenVPN connection between my Asus router and iPhone. I can access my network remotely using the iPhone, but can't figure out how to remote access my cameras. I used the browser Safari, put in the NVR lan ip address, and logged in to the Hikvision NVR, but...

    Remote access using VPN

Already tried that. Didn't work. Maybe an issue in my OpenVPN config file?? My Asus AC86U is setup just like Southern Yankee in post #12 of this thread: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/trouble-connecting-using-openvpn-via-t-mobile-cellular.36853/ Only thing I can think of is checked "none" on...

    Remote access using VPN

I have successfully installed and am using the IVMS app on my iPhone. I get a good connection to my NVR when my iPhone is set to "Wi-Fi ON" and linked to my home network. When I turn Wi-Fi to OFF it will not connect to the NVR. OpenVPN only seems to be working with a Wi-Fi connection. I'm...

    Remote access using VPN

Is the IVMS app installed on the iPhone only? If so, after the VPN connection is made, how is the IVMS app directed to my NVR? I know this is simple but I can't get the concept. All help is appreciated. Maybe this is covered in the VPN Primer for Noobs but I haven't seen it.

    Remote access using VPN

I have successfully setup a tunnel VPN using OpenVPN. Using an iPhone and Safari as the browser, I can access my home network and bring up the Hikvision web interface for my NVR. Problem is I can't live view because it's asking for a plug-in. Where do I go from here? Am I even going about...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

I'm the same, very little wifi. All streaming on devices that are hard wired to router. I just want to play with a tunnel VPN. The AC66U-B1 would work fine for me. I did notice that for just a few more dollars you can get the AC68U. I doubt there are any features that would be useful for me...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

It has been several months since I read through his thread. What are the current model Asus routers that support OpenVPN? Any other brands that are ecomomically priced? thanks.

    router for VPN

So what alternative networking equipment are you suggesting for a "consumer" in need of "consumer grade" applications. Please understand I have no idea of what you mean by "owned via heartbleed". I really appreciate all the suggestions I am getting here, but I readily admit I know very little...

    router for VPN

I think the Asus firmware may be my best bet initially. I have no doubt the 3rd party firmware offers more features, but they may be features I never need. Since it's going to be a challenge for me to set up a VPN I hate to introduce another variable into the equation right off the bat. I...

    router for VPN

OK, sounds good. Is it as easy to work with for a guy like me that knows little to nothing about setting up a VPN? I know I've found lots of good info and how to's on working with the Asus factory firmware, but sometimes there is even more info on "open source" software.

    router for VPN

Help me understand, what is the advantage of using Merlin or FreshTomato when the AC66U comes with the ability to run OpenVPN using the factory firmware?

    router for VPN

    1. Arris Surfboard SB6141 2. Arris modem connect to TP-Link router 3. VOIP is not supplied by ISP. It is MagicJack 4. MagicJack module connects to router via RJ45 then RJ11 to cordless phone

    router for VPN

ISP is local cable company Cablelynx. Modem is Arris. I have no idea if it will allow pass through of VOIP. Are you using OpenVPN on your AC66U?

    router for VPN

I found a great deal on an Asus RT-AC66U router. I realize this is older ASUS technology but is there any reason I could not use OpenVPN with this router to provide remote access to my Hikvision NVR? I have very simple needs for wireless capabilities at my house, and I'm not even sure I can...

Open VPN- struggling to "get it".....

As an aside, does setting up a VPN tunnel using an ASUS router have any effect on regular internet traffic outgoing/incoming from the home LAN? Reason I ask is that I'm using MagicJack VOIP and I'm wondering if I setup an VPN tunnel if there will be any issues.

    NVR cooling

My Hikvision NVR is in a location where it can conveniently be ran with the cover off. Would this provide better cooling? Or is the case designed for the fan to pull/push air more efficiently? Also another possibility would be case off with a 140mm computer fan blowing across the board.

    Hikvision NVR and Poe injector.

Personally I wouldn't do that. In Hikvision NVR's there are 2 small fans. The one that cools the board produces almost no noise. The one on the power supply however is loud. I don't think you would notice any sound difference disconnecting the first one, and I think it would be detrimental...

    Hikvision NVR and Poe injector.

I've often wondered if cutting a hole in the top of the NVR and using a 140mm computer fan to exhaust would really help?

Hikvision camera selection 5mp or 8mp?

thank you. That makes perfect sense. Glad to know. However, makes me wonder why they don't just specify in inches or millimeters. Guess somewhere down the line the fractional representation just became the de facto standard.

Hikvision camera selection 5mp or 8mp?

Would you please explain the measurement "1/2.5" I see these specifications of sensor sizes tossed around but I don't understand what the unit(s) of measurement are. I assume by your comment "1/2" is a larger sensor.

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

Thanks, SADP successfully changed IP addresses, and NVR has those channels running now. I am disappointed the Virtual Host mode will not seem to work on my NVR allowing me to access the cameras directly through my NVR. I'll have to use the laptop and change IP everytime I need to get into...

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

OK thanks, will try. I had found that IEEE 802.af or 802at offered "POE detection". That answered my question but I couldn't find any specs on the Hik NVR POE ports protocol. Hikvision apparently doesn't publish that info. Hated to plug in without being sure. Probably should have just...

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

Can't find a setting to do this. Tried the camera edit function adding method as plug-and-play, and did not work. Maybe SADP tool to reset camera's IP to 192.168.254.xxx range.

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

Apparently the NVR's internal network is 192.168.254.xxx while my connected cameras are still 192.168.0.xxx (my LAN). I am at a loss as to how to change this IP configuration.

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

I removed all cameras from the NVR's ports. In the IP camera management section when I select a camera and then apply "delete" I get the message "no IP camera for deletion". I also accessed the NVR through a web browser and don't see any way to delete there. I re-connected a camera to see if...

Hikvision NVR not connecting to cameras

I previously had 4 Hik cameras running fine connected to POE switch then to router. Also had Hik NVR connected to same LAN and it detected cameras. I decided I wanted to use the built-in POE ports on the NVR so moved cables over from switch, turned on POE power to these channels, and now I'm...

    IP Camera Security

crw030: Would you kindly give a small tutorial on setting up the dual-nics for us non-network types. I know this must be simple but I just can't get the concept of why this is important and how it is physically done. thanks
