trying to set up POE Switch (C3750X)

Correct, if it's been reset back to defaults AND the VLAN file has been wiped out, then yes it should act just like any ol' dumb switch.

trying to set up POE Switch (C3750X)

Is your modem a modem/router combo unit or is purely a modem? If it is just a modem, you'll need a router in the mix too. Also keep in mind to power cycle your modem any time you move it to a different device. Often times they bind to the MAC address of the device they were connected to at...

Got my new PTZ to replace new one I fried in 2.34" rain. Need the Gods of the Forum to tell me how to waterproof properly.

I always shoot the jack full of dielectric grease and then insert the network cable. This is a last line of defense though. All other means necessary should be taken to ensure the connection is out of the weather and as protected as possible. And yes, dielectric grease makes a heck of a...

trying to set up POE Switch (C3750X)

That is a great switch but it is enterprise-grade gear. Configuration will be done either through a console cable or SSH in a command-line environment. There are a few tools out there that allow the switch to be configured through a graphical interface but I'm not aware of any free ones (they...

Best Cat6 cable for my system?

Amazon or Monoprice are great places to get cable. Amazon can be a bit of a minefield however. Make sure that any cable you are looking at is listed as "bare copper", "solid copper", "pure copper", or something like that indicating that the conductors are solid copper. Amazon sells a bunch of...

    Tester for CCTV Cameras

Yes it is a big jump in price but I wanted to make sure you were clear on what features were available between the two versions. Also, the Dahua one is more of a portable camera tester/viewer rather than a network tester as the Klein unit is. Looks like an interesting product, but they...

BI viewing console for 2 BI installs?

In a recent webinar, Ken mentioned that one of the things in the pipeline for development is a much better way to combine the view of the cameras from multiple servers into one view. This along with direct AI integration (which just came out) seemed to be high on his priority list.

    Patch panel question

As someone who has installed many patch panels in the past, this is one of my favorites. It is modular and uses Keystone jacks and provides a spot to secure the cables so that if you need to move the patch pane, you aren't directly pulling on the connections...

    Tester for CCTV Cameras

I also have the Klein Scout Pro 3. Awesome tester. One thing to be careful of though is the remote units in the one listed in the post above will only ID a cable, not test it. This is the one that I have that IDs and tests...

    Patch panels - which type

This style is my preference. Uses keystone jacks but also gives a spot on the back to secure the cable with a zip tie. This helps reduce the possibility of causing problems when moving the patch panel to add wires or to troubleshoot another connection. The only thing to watch out for with...

VLAN and dumb switches downstream of smart switches

Unmanaged (dumb) switches can give some inconsistent results when trying to handle tagged data. Some switches will strip the tags off. Some will see it as corrupt data as the frame size is larger than a standard untagged frame. Some will simply pass on the tagged data as someone mentioned...

blue iris freezing and lagging. Can't get blue iris to control new amcrest cam

I have several installations now using Blue Iris 5. Runs great in all of my installations. As looney2ns said, there's nothing to help diagnose the issue here. The issue might not be the software.

Port forwarding- Ports cease to work after a day or so

Also just wanted to mention too that you had expressed concern that 192.168.24.x indicates that it is a router connected to another router. This is not true at all. 192.168.24.1 - 254 are all valid IP addresses for use in any private network and do not indicate anything special.

Windows 10, Blue Iris 4 and 0xC00007b and the case of the missing .DLL's

Same here. Just had to do it with a system running Server 2012 R2 (it's a VM). Didn't have any issues until the last update. installing the C++ Redistributable Packages for VB 2013 fixed the issue.

    94 Camera Blue Iris install

Take a look at this article: Why RAID 6 stops working in 2019 | ZDNet I personally feel that RAID 6 is very reliable yet, although I can see where an array of 10-12TB drives might start getting into the dangerous range when a rebuild is needed. I use Unraid on my storage server with dual parity...

    94 Camera Blue Iris install

Something else to consider is whether using RAID 5 is wise or not. If I were running this system, I would be looking at either RAID 6 or using an Unraid server with dual parity drives. With RAID 5 and drives that large, your odds of a successful rebuild when a drive fails is not good.

Noob network layout and hardware selection help

Managed also allows you many more advanced features. VLANs are probably the most common. These features are primarily used in a corporate environment or in more advanced home networks. Here's an article that helps to explain the difference: How to choose between a managed, or unmanaged...

    Hardware Recommendation - 30 4MP Cameras

I'm not saying to skip RAID altogether. I'm simply saying don't do RAID 5 with hard drives that large.

    Hardware Recommendation - 30 4MP Cameras

Something else to consider here, RAID5 is not a good option when dealing with large HDDs. The issue is that if/when a hard drive fails and a new one is installed, the odds of a successful rebuild are not good. RAID6 (has two parity drives so its odds of a successful rebuild are better) and...

I love BI, but the database is terrible

I had this happen just recently on one of my BI computers as well. I had to click the stop-light button to stop all recording and then rebuild the database. Once it was finished I started the recording back up. It's been running now for about a week and a half without issue. I believe there...

You could set all of the cameras to record continuously and then use the stop-light icon to start and stop the recording.

    Neighbors house blows up

Yes, I've seen this with high-wattage stage/theatrical lighting. 575W and 750W halogen bulbs will sometimes go bright blue or red for a few seconds before popping (which can sometimes sound like a gunshot).

CCTV Camera For My Needs - OFFLINE - No Internet Access

If you are having problems connecting with a normal network cable directly from the camera through a POE Injector and into the laptop, you may need a crossover network cable.
