2nd Amendment thread

I think that data is a bit dated. Generally speaking Federal HST and Speer GoldDot are missing and have been the go to rounds for 9mm and up for years.

In .380 it’s mostly about penetration, and anything with the the Hornady XTP bullet (any ammo brand but the Buffalo Bore stuff is impressive) has been the go to for a long time.

I occasionally carry a PPK/S .380 in an ankle holster and while I prefer the P365 9mm, it comes in handy when carrying on the waist isn’t practical.

My EDC is either a P320C with +P HSTs or my P239 .357 Sig with either HST or GoldDot

Certainly could be dated info-- but the physics behind the ballistics don't change too much so as a quick comparison it works. I started down this rabbit hole because apparently my pants are shrinking lately (lol) and my IWB holster for my M&P9 full frame is NOT comfortable. I want to get in the habit of EDC. I had not thought of an ankle holster... thanks for opening another damn rabbit hole for me! :winktongue:

Yup-- all the "pocket" pistols seem to be those very weak calibers. A relative of mine is a former deputy sheriff and he carries a little .380 in his pocket everywhere. I want 9mm in my pocket, but to accomodate that the gun size just goes up. Not sure if any of the compact/subcompact 9's would really work as a pocket carry gun.
Plenty of pistols that are capable of pocket carry. Springfield Hellcat Micro-Compact. Sig Sauer 365, etc.. I personally have Springfield and Sig Sauer that I pocket carry... just need to make sure you practice drawing out of your pocket.

As for ankle carry. I've done it for backup, but it's not my first choice by a long shot.

EDC for me...a few options.
1. Glock 30 45ACP with a Glock 21 mag and mag sleave. Gives me 13 rounds in the mag and one in the pipe. IWB JM4 Tactical magnetic holster. Hornady Critical Duty +P JHP ammo. Good for Spring and Fall seasons.
2. Glock 26 9MM with a +2 floor plate. Gives me 12 rounds in the mag and one in the pipe and a place to hang my pinky. IWB JM4 Tactical magnetic holster. Hornady Critical Duty JHP ammo. Good for Summer here in Texas.
3. Same Glock 26 but carried in a Glaco ankle holster. Good for Winter when one is wearing long pants.
4. KelTek P3AT .380ACP with an extended mag that gives me 9 rounds in the mag and 1 in the pipe. Comp-Tac Centerline holster. Remington JHP ammo. Have not carried this for many years though.

The ankle holster is great if you don't feel like having the weight on your side. But you really need to think about deploying the pistol and practice that draw and shoot. It can be very hard to find a range that will let you do that. Also carrying it in that holster with shorts on looks silly.

I really like those JM4 IWB holsters. Comfy and easy to position. My favorite is the Glock 30 for EDC year round. But lately I have been doing the Glock 26 IWB.

Just found out my brother has a Hellcat --- damn that is nice but the CHEAP ASS in me just really did not want to spend that much....

pretty good package deal...

Yeah agree with others, Ankle holster is my very last resort and more typically for a backup gun. Didnt mean to imply its a good choice otherwise.

Conceal this!!

From IM Metal, which of course later became HS Produkt, best known today for producing the XD series of pistols ..

not your everyday carry firearm ..

The Kresimir is honestly the most bonkers weapon I have come across in a long while. Made by IM Metall in Croatia at the beginning of the Croatian Homeland War circa 1991, this is a semiautomatic grenade launcher. Most grenade launchers fire a big cartridge with an explosive warhead, but not this thing. Instead, it uses a 5-round magazine of M50 hand grenades with percussion fuses. A second magazine holds 7.62x39mm grenade-launching blank cartridges. Pulling the trigger drops two strikers in succession; first one to ignite the hand grenade fuse, and then one to fire the launching cartridge. What could possibly go wrong?

When you do fire, the recoil cycles the whole barrel and bolt backwards like a long recoil action, although it appears to be blowback and not locked. This loaded a fresh grenade in the barrel and leaves it ready to fire again with the next trigger pull. We don't know how many of these insane creations were actually made, but I have multiple reports of their actual wartime use from veterans of the conflict.

Thanks to the Sisak Municipal Museum for giving me access to film this!

.380 / 9mm pretty much the same thing.

Even the police acknowledge 9mm lacks stopping power. The FBI tried 10mm a few years back but some officers found it too much gun, especially the females and accuracy suffered so they went back to 9mm. I think there was probably an anticipation of recoil affecting the accurracy as 10mm actually doesn't recoil much more than 9mm but has far more stopping power, in fact very similar to .357 mag without the recoil penalty. I've always thought of 10mm as a good compromise therefore between stopping power, recoil and follow up shot speed. It also can be taken to have good stopping power because in Alaska it's quite popular apparently as a bear carry!!

.357 mag / .44 mag too much recoil and .357 mag only available in a revolver apart from 2 sepecialist semi-autos - the Connan and I forget the other one.

.44 mag, too much gun. Miss and you're likely to get shot before you can make the follow up.

.40 weak.

.45 large slow and weak.

Brno 7.6 FK has always been another favourite calibre of mine but a lack of chambered weapons and sheer expense of guns put it beyond most shooters. I also don't think there's a good carry pistol. For those who don't know 7.5 FK, it was designed supposedly for an unspecified NATO army as a sidearm calibre with the aim of defeating body armour and is supposed to perform not that far behind .44 mag in stopping power, but with penetration of both body armour and bullet proof glass. So it hits hard and penetrates even kevlar, bullet proof glass etc. Uses speed for penetration as it's a small fast round.

I'd like to hear some experience beyond Youtube of the 7.6FK because in many aspects it seems like the perfect carry. I should say, despite it's ability to penetrate armour, I understand it doesn't over penetrate as it expands and dumps energy really well.

Unfortunately, I can carry none of these over here. Feather duster or shout for help about the only defence.

As for a home defence rifle, only one or two choices for me....50 Beowulf AR...457 SOCOM AR or HCAR (.30-06 for those unfamiliar) Albeit I understand the latter has issues with cycling hollow points and would definately have to be fettled for relibiability of feed to catch me given that home dfence is an operationally critical application...

As you can see for a home rifle, it's stopping power over range all the way for me. After all when was the last time you owned a 300 yard hallway?

discuss......

Original LCP here with crimson trace laser. Along with Hornady Critical Defense. It rides in my right front pocket all day every day.

Or you can look at the new LCP max, more capacity, and better sights.
Have you looked at the Ruger Max-9?

So I went into my local Runnings yesterday to check out the Ruger Max-9. I called them first and told them about the price from SportsmansOutdoorSuperstore, and the guy said that was cheaper than what HE pays for that gun. You have to really HOLD and feel these handguns, so I went to Runnings to check several out.

  • The Bearcat was fantastic-- best sights (a U-shaped rear sight) that just seemed to magically line up perfect every time. That thing was the lightest of all that I held yesterday, and man it really felt good in my hand-- my credit card started singing to me... LOL
  • The Ruger Max-9 was a bit heavier-- which is OK by me just for stability and recoil energy, but I did not like the sights on it-- the rear sight especially which is only Black. That was much harder to pull up and be on target quickly since the back sight has no markings or color variation to the back of the gun.
  • Since I have an M&P, I held an M&P9 Shield as well. I know this one is very popular-- but it felt very boxy and just did not feel good in my hand.
  • Then I tried a Taurus G3C...
Wow--- I was immediately impressed. The grip just below the trigger is just a tiny bit wider, which made a huge difference in how it felt. It actually felt better to me in my hand than the Bearcat. The sights are similar to my M&P9 with a two-dot rear sight to line the front dot up with. I Placed an order for it with Sportsmans this morning after lining up an FFL to receive it for me. HE said that the price on this was cheaper than he could get one.

I sense a range day coming up...

Yeah no +P rounds there either. Underwood ammo is missing as well which seems to be a popular brand with Youtube gun channels, especially for +P.

Be cautious with underwood and other boutique manufacturers, some load some very hot stuff. Just make sure your pew pew can handle it.
That said I do have some underwood .380 and .357 Sig

When I redid my Rem 870, I tested it with some Brenneke slugs. I was watching a COPS show about Alaskan State Troopers and Game Wardens, seems that they favored this slug in their shotguns. Holy Sheeetz, there's a reason why! I think every filling I have in my mouth hurt, and I had a headache for a few hours after firing just 5 of them! Great rounds to have and show off. Ha. This is basically it, but with a Hogue front hand guard/grip. But I built mine 14 years ago.

That's a great ass!
