Adding Pan/Tilt Device to Hik 2032

Very impressed with the Hik 2032, but one of the biggest setbacks for me is no pan/tilt ability.

I'm interested in adding a pan/tilt device (ie. mounting the bullet cam onto a pan/tilt device) but not sure where to start. Perhaps someone here has done this or has ideas of the best way. I would need to operate this remotely over the internet, so simply mounting the unit to an analog pan/tilt device with RS-485 cable would not work...Would have to convert this signal to ip.

Simplest solution would be if there's any way of connecting a pan/tilt device to a circuit board inside the camera as an add on accessory (similar to how the manufacturer added IR lights as an accessory)...Not sure if any boards inside the camera would support adding a pan/tilt device or not, though?

If anyone has any advice on what my options are, I would greatly appreciate it!
 
Welcome to the forum. If you really want pan tilt you are better of with a ptz camera. What are you going to use the camera for? You may be better of with two fixed cameras.

Thanks for the kind welcome! For this particular setup, I'm looking to use it primarily as a weather/nature cam. I would like to be able to pan in all directions and tilt up to the sky or down toward the ground as needed. The Hikvision PTZ domes that I've seen have been out of budget (plus offer limited tilting above the horizon). I thought about using more than one fixed camera, but I'd probably need at least 4 to cover all directions. Even that wouldn't offer the up and down tilt, so it seems the only reasonable solution I would have is mounting one cam to a pan/tilt device. I can get some RS-485 controlled pan/tilt devices under $100, which would be an affordable and easy solution were it in my backyard (just use a joystick to move the cam around)...However, with it being installed in a remote location and having to be controlled through the internet, that complicates things a little bit. Would have to connect the Pan/Tilt device to a DVR or something like that if there's no way to add it to the camera's internal main board.

I did notice that the internet explorer interface using the Hik 2032 firmware has the pan/tilt control options and saw in a manual that this is for "cameras that support ptz or have an external pan/tilt device installed"...Made it sound as though it was "doable" to add extra devices to the cam, but not quite sure how it would be done if it is indeed possible. I'm fairly handy with electronics, though my experience with CCTV in particular is fairly limited. Thus I could probably do it, but would need a little instruction.:encouragement:

I have a Hikvision box cam DS-2CD4012F mounted on it inside an enclosure both are powered by a POE splitter mounted inside the enclosure.

It can be controlled through the web interface, my NVR(7816N-E2) or iVMS

To use a pan tilt mount you need a cam that has RS485.
It works very well and covers my whole front yard, total cost was about $300.
Camera: $155
Lens: $60 (used on e-bay)
Pan /Tilt Mount: $35
Poe splitter: $25
Enclosure: $20
 
how did you hook it up the NVR? did you have to run a separate cable for the rs485 inputs?
 
The cam has an RS485 connection in the back, the pan tilt mount plugs into this connection and it is controlled by the cam through the network. No separate cable needed.

Cool setup. What would be cool is one of the zoom cameras, like pairing it with an ACTi KCM5611 or similar that has RS485 and IR LEDs and good low light performance. The problem I ran into when I tried working with ACTi to make this work is there's two issues. One is presets, how do you setup presents to go to specific locations or patrols to cover different presets? The ACTi has presets as an option, but there was no coordination of the location with the camera presets, so even though the camera supported, the handshake between the PT device and the camera was not there.
 
Presets work fine with the Hik cams with no drift at all, goes to the same spot everytime, patrol and pattern do not work.

One thing that does work is my NVR has VCA alarm with PTZ linking, I have two Hik 2332 (4mm) that covers a wide view of the front yard and set line crossing detection at the front gate on one 2332 and the walkway on the other 2332, I link the 2332's to the PT cam and when the line crossing is detected the PT cam goes to preset #1 the front gate, when line crossing is detected on the other 2332 it goes to preset #2 the front walkway. The 2332's have 4mm lens while the box cam on the PT mount has a Fujinon 15-50mm MP lens for closeup set at about 40mm.

I wish Hik added RS 485 to some of there bullet cams like the 2032, the DS-2CD4224F-I(Z)(H)(S) is the only bullet type Hik cam I could find with RS485, it also has zoom but they are a little pricey.

Aliexpress, got it about 4 months ago, the cheapest I see it now is $163, of coarse you will also need a lens and an enclosure if you plan on mounting it outside.
You can get true WDR for $100 more, other options include auto back focus and P iris these will cost more.
They also have 2 & 3 MP versions.

The POE splitter I use is TP-LINK TL-POE10R this splits the power from the cat5 cable, passes data to the cam, the power output goes to the PT mount which has a splitter and goes back to the cam 12v input.
You will need an enclosure big enough to fit the splitter into. I am pulling down one of the cams soon to add an external mic I will take some pics then.

@Mel42: Bro, can you post links on these items since I'm honestly I'm not familiar yet with these stuff. At least the actual lens and enclosure you used for your particular camera. And if you don't mind posting a pic of your set up once you take it down that would be great. A video maybe of you controlling it? Hehe :D I tried imagining it based on your description and I think it's really cool for a cheapo pt. Plus you can cheaply replace the pt mount if in case it dies on you without losing the rest of the kit. Personally, I like this kind of out of the box thinking that you did.

The Hik box cam is basically a standard box cam, they take CS-type lens mount and fit in standard CCTV camera housing.
I do not know the weight spec for the mount but they are not heavy duty, I use plastic outdoor housing’s
to try and keep the weight down and mount the housing as close to the middle as possible.

They do not come with a lens you have to purchase separately, yes manual focus/zoom, looked at some MP zoom lens but the cost is high, at that point you could just
get a real PTZ cam. I use a cheap 2332 4mm as sort of a spotting cam and the PT cam for close up's.

Zoom for my possible set up is not actually a requirement. So a cheapo PT is adequate.
Will just wait for the Chinese holiday to finish and see if this one is doable for my case. Will post more questions once I get into it.

I want to get two of those pt mounts but I own a zmodo 8 ch camera system and would like to know how to set the id since one of them should have id #2, do I need to buy a Ptz keyboard to assign the id? Thanks
