Dahua 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera (SD49225T-HN)

Running into some issues now with the new (march 2017) firmware. The PTZ doesn't zoom in while in autotracking mode. No setting to change that ;-((((((((

When the PTZ starts tracking it doesn't go beyond 2x zoom. Mostly it even stays on 1x zoom (so no zoom). I wonder what this might be.

Also some settings have vanished, like Global IVS setup (never understood what it was for anyways) and the Tracking limits.

What "ptz" firmware are you using? Have you installed the [PTZ]General_SD59XXXS-HN_V3.02.20.R.170116 ? If not, that may be something to try....Also, I see they now have an NTSC version of the march 2017 firmware...Have you tried that one? Maybe the bug is in the new PAL firmware...

Other than the autotracking problem and missing options, do you see any issues that have been fixed? Also does the image look any different (color, how clear it is, etc.)?

I installed the PAL version of the march 2017 firmware. Andy adviced me to do so. I did not try the NTSC version, since I live in the Netherlands where PAL is the video standard. I am wondering about this [PTZ]General_SD59XXXS-HN_V3.02.20.R.170116 software however. Is it software to install after the firmware upgrade? I doubt about it, because also my camera is a HNI and this [PTZ]General_SD59XXXS-HN_V3.02.20.R.170116 says 'HN' and no 'HNI'. Really confusing. I asked @EMPIRETECANDY about it, but no reply so far.

Yeah, probably a good idea to get confirmation from him first. It is listed on the site as compatible with your model and I don't think the "HNI" really makes any difference for this particular piece of firmware...but better to be safe than sorry.

Hello. I am new here but have been reading most of the big threads in the Dahua forum for a week or so and learning lots. Before I discovered this site I had ordered one of the newly released Foscam Starvis PTZ cams with 4x zoom. I have it installed and happy with the image quality but NOT with the ptz part. I didn't realize that they only tilt 90degrees up and down. That means the camera zoom is essentially useless for my large backyard which is about 1 acre. The reason is because it will only tilt up so far. The images attached show what it looks like when zoomed out all the way i can see the whole yard but when I zoom in all the way all I get is grass. Their is construction going in my pond for drainage at the top left as you can see. If I want to zoom to see details I can't get the image to pan up this high to see anything. The reason I am writing this in the dahua forum is because I just ordered this dahua 25x ptz as it sounds awesome to use as a replacement but now reading it also only has 90 degree vertical zoom. Please tell me I am not going to be in the same situation but just seeing more blades of grass closer up? I don't understand why they don't allow more tilt up and less tilt down? At least as an option or something. Any comments are much appreciated.

You should be fine. The Dahua will tilt up way above 90. I can zoom 25x and tilt up all the way and look at nothing but blue sky.

Yes! That's what I was hoping to hear! Much better design. Mine should be here on Wednesday or Thursday with DHL. I will report back with my findings. Thanks so much for confirming this with me!

Couldn't you just shim the bottom of the mounting bracket with some washers to angle the camera up a little?

The Dahua 25x will tilt from 90 degrees below the horizon to 20 degrees above the horizon. This should be enough for your needs..While I wish there were even more upward tilt, you just don't find more than this with domes. Only options for more upward tilt is either mounting a dome upside down (possibly risky if directly exposed to rain) or either getting a more professional (and much more expensive) vehicle style PTZ....But again, based on the picture above, the 20 degrees on the Dahua should be more than enough.

I was able to tilt the 25x enough to get just above the horizon for this star clip last night. My im not sure what im seeing with the stationary lights. geosynchronous satellites?

Looks great! How does this view work in the daytime for weather monitoring? A scene like this in the day would really throw my auto white balance into orbit (no pun intended)

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to reply to my question and in so much detail. I am now convinced this Dahua 25x PTZ will work just great. The Foscam's lens is actually tilted down a fair amount at the highest point so no wonder you can't see anything near the horizon when you zoom. Not very well thought out but I guess you get what you pay for!

Have a guy his camea can't focus, any guys has some suggestion? thanks.

Here are two images. One is taken at a distance of about 4 or 5 cm. It is sharp. The other image is taken at about 75 cm. It is blurry.

The focus control seems to function, but the range of focus is very close. Seems this is not the camera problem? @ldasilva

make sure the Exposure is set to auto
i noticed on my 2 once i start messing with settings it some times dont look as good as auto

if he moves it does it get into focus?

I'm the guy with the problem camera. Yes, exposure is set to auto. I haven't changed any factory defaults except for network settings. With the zoom level at 4 or less (wide end of zoom) the camera will not focus at infinity, although it will focus at uselessly close distances. Even at greater zoom levels the focus changes markedly with every zoom change, although autofocus works after a few seconds. I know that my SLR lenses don't change focus with zoom, but I doubt that this lens is built to the same quality level. Nevertheless, since the lens can't focus at the wide end of zoom and changes focus with every zoom level, I suspect that the lens was not assembled or tested properly. Firmware can't fix that.

There is no material difference between a bright outdoor scene, indoor scene, or IR illuminated scene.

I need to install the camera for a project in ten days, but I've spent the last week fussing around with no success. I'm game for any other suggestions. Otherwise, I hope that Andy can make this right in time for the project.
