You can even find em on amazon in the States, not as cheap but still reasonable.. http://www.amazon.com/Sensky-Microwave-sensitivity-distance-detector/dp/B00MHLK2YY/
Looking forward to the step by step tutorial on how to hook up to the alarm i/o.

hah yeah well I dont have a place for one of those on a camera.. I was going to use the alarm input on this camera to wire a simple dry contact switch up on the gate below it.

I'll take pix when I got it done, its pretty simple overall.. my big black face dahua has one of its alarm inputs wired to my other gate's contact switch, and its second alarm input is wired to an Optex motion sensor that watches my rec vehicle parking.. I think I have pix of that already up here, maybe.. that was a couple years ago heh.

I been thinking of putting one in my garage at the cat door, just for more reliable detection.. but I dont care that much honestly, I still get the cats coming and going even though I get a few false alarms from lighting outside the window.. depends on how many left over inputs on my NVR I have once everything is reconfigured.

Ive been told by a fellow member here that these Microwave ones are definately worth the cost: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/c2EwJQOk

I believe they fit inside a standard electrical box.. and work even with a blank cover installed on it.

Thanks, thats a good price. How would it react to branches moving in the wind ? On my front yard there is no trees but for the camera at the backyard there will be a few trees very close.

since these are microwave you should be able to change the detection patten by making a foil cone shaped to the detection zone you want.. it was discussed in my automation thread, I think he put it in another enclosure and shaped the pattern to work like a beam sensor.. focused at a target area.. the distances are not extremely far with microwave, and they could be screwed with by rain/snow if they happen to resonate.

I guess I could get one to experiment with, its cheap.. why not.

Alright sounds good. They are cheap for sure. I will probably get a few to play with. Even if it doesnt work in one location there is always some other place i could put it.

I was so happy and then i was sad :(
My camera arrived in 1 week with China post ! Problem is they sent the regular non AS version..... I wonder what happens now.. Sending back costs alot from my country so i hope they can solve this some other way. If something can go wrong it usually happens to me lol.

So a couple of weeks later and now i have the right model finaly, also i decided to get a Bosch PIR Tritech sensor (microwave). Took awhile to figure out all the settings but now it works great. I am very happy with the camaera now. Very sharp picture and good IR lights.

Need 2 more cameras to cover the whole outside yard and front door. Will be Dahua AS models for sure.

For anyone wondering i had to ship back the wrong model and it cost $30 but i got that back as soon i shipped the package. Seemed fair.

how you liking that motion sensor? no false positives?

Will get back to you on that in a week or so. Got it up today so not had much time to test yet :)
Hopefully it will perform well. I might have to use some silicon to make it more water/moistureresistant but its under a roof so rain wont hit it atleast.

which camera did u end up getting?

The AS version is what i got now. (IPC-HFW4421D-AS). They sent the regular one without alarm/audio first so had to send back.

nice.are u going to take pics on how u connected the wires to the sensor? that would be cool :)

Sure, i can do that later but there wasnt much too it really. Used a 12v splitter wire to get power to both camera and PIR. The alarm in and ground wire from the camera connected to NC terminals on the PIR. There are two NC terminals. One for each wire. When the PIR triggers the connection between the NC terminals opens and the camera senses that.
There are better ways to wire it up with tamper protection but i dont really need that becouse the PIR and the wires are not in reach from the ground.

Here is inside the PIR. Black wires are 12v power. Yellow alarm-in and grey ground. Bit messy lol. The PIR is at an strange angle becouse its higher up than recommended but it needs to be there to get protection from rain/snow. Need to tilt it slightly down to cover all the area.

Not sure what that kind of cable is called, i have the PIR close to the camera so i didnt need an extension.
