the time is wrong on the nite shots it was like 3-4-5am or so
Thanks for the showing! How far away for the camera to the car?
lol, the camera is nice for the plate watching, @nayr is right, normal camera can't watch the plate at all. We wait Nayr's testing soon, he got some European license plate too. And we can see then.

So the camera can watch the plate well.

Would the IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 perform better at night without making adjustments (auto) vs the IPC-HFW5431E-Z? I am torn between the two now. I want to be able to read plates at ~100ft on a residential street with streetlights.

From what I read the 2mp are better for just plain night photo as it makes the background brighter. While the 4mp provides more detail at the cost of background lighting. From LPR the extra MP do help. Could be wrong... But I remember reading that somewhere

That's what I understand too. I guess what I am saying is that I think the 2mp will be fine for me and require less tweaking.

Thanks

Sorry guys; weather has been shit every time I've had the free time to setup a camera test for LPR use.. need a few dry days and the time to line up so I can get this done w/out risking water damage on my test rigs... Damn April showers, but we need the moisture out here in the desert..

I have removed my last post sorry.

Tested this week

Good results.

Day and night Full zoom and wide zoom.

As you can see angle is very important my camera is not in the best mounting configuration

High of mounting about 5 meters.
distance beetween camera and licence plate about 25 meters

As you can see there are trees and the angle of the camera is not good but it works

Think 2 mp can do the job
zoom and IR are the key for LPR
you can do the job with 640 x480.

I think I will wait for nayr's review but it would be nice to get 2mp starlights for cost and versatility reasons.
the 4mp i just got from @EMPIRETECANDY is doing pretty dam good at least for me
im getting id say 95% rate of manual grabbing LPR compared to the hik 12mm i had installed

Today i have seen that my camera was a little blurry as you can seen on the first pictures.
Look at licence plate ...

Its very strange perhaps the sun can be the problem ?
I have clicked on Autofocus button and problem was resolved.

I looked in the API documentation for a command to set the autofocus but I did not find anything.
