Have you tried reloading the firmware? I could be something corrupt perhaps? I'm just guessing right now as I have not been able to set up my Z5 camera---still sitting in the box.

Just looking from the pictures it does look odd but looks like it has to do with the lighting affecting it's target focus.

Been following this thread for sometime.. trying to finalize the cameras for the security monitoring system.. just returned a crappy lorex system bought from Costco.. hoping this thread will pick up some momentum in order for me to decide which cameras to go with. Have read thru TechBills install thread as well (TechBill's surveillance build).

Any suggestions from the community as to what really is stable and works?
I have seen several of NAYR's reviews and posts as well (thank you Nayr) but am not able to come to a decision on what really I should be buying from AliExpress (given not many of the vendors here in the US except ebay.. have these cameras)

Requirement is -
- LPR capability with Varifocal capability
- Good Nigh-time video results/capture
- Stability of the cameras (install is almost 30ft off the ground.. so several ladder trips involved - which I would like to minimize install/uninstall)
- H.265 capable (throw in the multitude of default standards ONVIF etc etc)
- 30 day data backup (NVR)
- others??

TIA

I'm waiting on nayr's review of the 4mp varifocal 35mm bullet for LPR.

Can anyone share details on their system builds to help me understand what works and what does not?
The requirements remain as posted above.. (using bullet cameras)
How reliable is equipment from vendors at Ali Express. I have never bought anything from AE in the past. What steps can be taken to future proof the investment in these cameras, NVR gear, the IR illuminators and do they have any option of obtaining a 4-year protection - like some AMZN vendors offer? (or should I just assume its luck and rethink my options?)

TIA

1080p cams have been the standard for a while, you cannot future proof anything technological, a starlight cam will be great now and probably a piece of shit in 10 years, but it will always be pretty good lol. as long as you buy gear from someone reputable like Andy, you'll get good gear, buy stuff with good reviews.

Sorry guys; weather has been shit every time I've had the free time to setup a camera test for LPR use.. need a few dry days and the time to line up so I can get this done w/out risking water damage on my test rigs... Damn April showers, but we need the moisture out here in the desert..
Any news on that "...time to setup a camera test for LPR use..." ? 94* fahrenheith here :cool:

Was snowing here this morning for a lil bit; but forecast is in high 70's and 80's for the next week (lows in 40's) so I intend to make some progress finally.

Good,Good,Good! ....

I officially took the Huisun V1, out of service and wanted another LPR cam, and trying to make a decision witch one will be best to get .
Was looking at other of your projects : Dahua IPC-HF5421E or IPC-HF5431E
IPC-HF5431E | Dahua Technology
and retrofit with better lens.
Or get the IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 or just wait for z12, the zoom 64mm will be nice! i have about 3,4 house down to the stop sign , where cars are moving slower and is better for getting the plates.
Anyway, Thanks!

The focus setting moves by itself ...

Send the API command http://<ip>/cgi-bin/devVideoInput.cgi?action= getFocusStatus
To have the status of the focus :

At 9:25 PM result :

status.Focus=0.945652
status.FocusMotorSteps=644
status.Status=Normal
status.Zoom=0.415704
status.ZoomMotorSteps=433

AT 10:52 PM result :

status.Focus=0.942547
status.FocusMotorSteps=644
status.Status=Normal
status.Zoom=0.415704
status.ZoomMotorSteps=433

As you can see the focus move by itself ...

It is very annoying if it is necessary to make the focus permanently

I thought they were auto focusing cameras.
Yes , but autofocus camera you can normally fix the focus or disable autofocus or if you cant there is a big problem of conception

Watching this one for reviews on the Z12 when and if it hits. Building new house later this year and seems it might be a good choice as we are in rural area and it may give us more options in mounting due to house design. Thanks for your efforts !

Based on the videos can you tell what might be possibly triggering the focus change? Do you think it might be the light sensor positioning?

Hopefully we can get a good review! We are in rural area. With house design, I'd like to be able to mount a camera up at about 17' and the end of the driveway will be about 45' away. Would this camera fit the bill ?

Has anyone had an issue where the camera goes all white, but you can still see IVS lines? I tried to do a remote reset, but it will not accept nor do i see a auto focus on pss

I think that would work for sure.
I am using the z5 about 8 feet high pointig to my gate thats over 100ft away, and can read plates pretty well. I can maybe post a pic of one of the contractors that came by to quote us on some things.
