Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

@bug99 lifesaver. thanks. This forum theming is definitely weird.

Can someone snapshot or otherwise share their BlueIris settings? The only Dahua cameras that are populated for me are: HFW2300R-Z,81200E RSTP/HTTP ; IPC-HFW2320R ; Main Stream RSTP.
It'd also be good to know the other settings from some good working setup.
Also is it http? rstp? rtmp? rtmps ?

Edit: found MCX's settings in page 42, 43 . Seem good so far.

I just used find/inspect and its seems to be working fine. Zoom is working as well.

either mount is large enough to house the pigtail, allowing you to pass your ethernet cable through the wall unterminated with a mere 1/4in hole instead of having to drill a 3/4in hole..

getting a large enough hole for the pigtail through brickwork for example is a massive PITA and difficult to repair if/when needed.. where as a 1/4 hole through the grout is easy to drill and easy to patch.

If your running external Conduit you'll want the junction box to maintain weather seals.

Thanks, that is very helpful - it wasn't immediately obvious from the website picture that there is a pigtail until this prompted me to look through the guides. I assume from your comments that the pigtail won't tuck inside the base of the camera itself? I'm dealing with wooden weatherboard walls, but regardless I would prefer to drill a much smaller hole and not have to feed the pigtail into the wall.

pigtails never fit under the camera, you need a junction box or something.

An interesting observation...

I received 2 of these today. They had different build dates, and different loaded firmware.

Camera #1 had firmware from July of 2016:

Camera #2 had firmware from December of 2016:
Camera #1 functioned perfectly, including IR on / off control from Blue Iris, AND a working snapshot URL:

Camera #2 functioned as well, but did NOT recognize IR on / off from Blue Iris, nor did the snapshot URL work

I loaded the same firmware (older one) onto camera #2, and the IR control and snapshot now work on those as well.

It seems odd to me that the newer firmware deplenished two fairly important (in my opinion) functions.

Anyone else having issues with functions in the newer firmware?

Sounds more like a blue iris issue (some things changed on the cam and blue iris hasn't been updated or requires some slight settings tweaks). I think the newer fw is using digest authentication.

I opened up my 2nd one tonight to configure and found the motorized lens is making a noisy clicking noise when zooming in. Zooming out is not as bad but still there. My first camera was quiet going in and out. Anyone having that issue? Haven't yet taken it apart.

silica packet might be making contact w/lens

Just to throw in a shout out to Andy at Empire Tec for great service, received a 5231R, some HFW1320S, and an NVR4208 yesterday. Very quickly shipped with outstanding service from Andy.
Maybe a little late, but could you make a comparison of the 5231R and the HFW1320S? I have two of the latter and they have an incredible image quality compared to the other cheap junk cameras. I am wondering how much better the image quality can get. Especially considering the HFW1320S are really cheap for some reason.

Used a couple of these 1 gang Junction boxes from Lowes. Shop Wiremold 1-Gang Metal Old Electrical Box at Lowes.com Installed soffits
Did have to do some slight modifications to box (I think drilled extra Mounting hole) & enlarged the Mounting holes on the turret to accept larger diameter screw (Used Nut & screws to mount to box)

Can make a short video? I can send to dahua guys, not youtube, china can't use Youtube, we live in a crazy country.

Great firewall of China lol, it's likely the silica packet, I had to play with mine too, they stick two in there and one is right by all the stuff that moves, won't hurt nothing.
Yes, so bad. Now i have a guy push dahua for this model everyday, when stock arrived, i think 2 months we have enough to ship out.

I just purchased 4 of the IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras from Andy and I was able to get all setup except one. For some reason I can't get it to connect to the network. The first 3 had no issues connecting and I was able to change the IP's and get them setup. The 4th one will not connect no matter what I do. I've tried all different variations of cables and ports on my switch. It shows a link light and the switch shows POE is active and providing power and I can hear the camera start up.

Is there anyway to factory reset these cameras or other troubleshooting tips anyone can provide?

Thanks

did you try the reset button, they seem to log into them and test all the ones I've bought, I had to reset my PTZ because they changed the admin password. Then of course make sure your computer's IP is static and in the right range.

Haven't yet - didn't want to take it apart unless I had to - IP's are all set right and worked fine on the other 3 cameras. Looks like it's time to crack it open and reset it. Is the process to just hold down reset while powering on or reset while already powered on.

Just hold down the button for I dunno, 10 seconds then give it a try

you hold it down during the boot process and it should wipe out the existing configuration file and reboot again.
