How do you make use of the 16 channels when you have 8 network ports ?
Well, you could have 8 cameras on the PoE ports, and 8 cameras on the LAN, or no cameras on the PoE ports and 16 cameras on the LAN, and any combination in between.

Ah OK, I think I see where my confusion comes from.

I thought the NVR was separating the internal PoE network ports from the LAN port and was only looking for cameras only on the PoE ports or on a LAN 2 port for non-PoE model.

But now that I'm looking more closely at the diagrams, I see that not all models have LAN 1 / LAN 2 ports.

So, now I understand cameras can technically be connected on a switch connected to the LAN port or on the PoE ports.

Regarding PoE ports, is it one camera per port or could a switch be connected to a PoE port to have more than one camera per PoE port ?

The NVR will only configure a single camera on a specific PoE port even if a switch with several cameras is connected to the PoE port.
