Getting the hang of it

I’m getting ready to pickup a new computer and want to know the simplest way to transfer my BI settings... I have 4 Dahua cams and a indoor Hykamic cam. When I originally set these up a few years ago I struggled some but watched YouTube videos and asked a lot of questions here. I’m getting up in age and don’t really remember what procedures I had to do.

1. So what are my options? Is there a simple way?

2. Could someone give me a detailed step by step procedure what I do first from downloading Bi to adding the cameras?

2. When I download BI on the new computer do I immediately transfer the license?

3. I remember having to change the cameras IP address from 1 to 0 but don’t remember how I did it. Does this have to be done again?

4. I also remember having to do some sort of initialization, is this required again?

Thanks for any help in advance!

I have never done this so I am not much help.

But maybe if I reply, others with more experience in this will come to give their opinion.

Yeah I sure could use some help with whether I'll have to change the IP address from 1 to 0 again like when I first got the cameras? Also will initialization have to be done again and if yes what software to use for this?

Initialization of the cams would not need to be done. They are already initialized and that had nothing to do with BI.

3. I remember having to change the cameras IP address from 1 to 0 but don’t remember how I did it. Does this have to be done again?
No, that should not need to be done as long as the new PC is on the proper sub-net.

@wittaj and @Flintstone61 can you help this guy?

That is correct the cameras are already initialized.

The best thing to do is to build BI from scratch and not export out the settings from the original and import into the new one. With 5 cameras it will be a quick setup.

If you do not have an active BI license, then make sure you don't load the most recent BI version or it will watermark evaluation and you will have to rollback.

Although not recommended, if you are scared something weird will happen, clone the existing C drive onto the drive in the new computer or pull it from the existing computer and pop it into the new computer.

You do run a risk of some driver incompatibility, but Windows usually resolves it.

If you don't do that, then make sure you de-activate/deregister your existing BI before you key the license in on the new computer.

Thanks guys that's the info I was looking for. I originally was going to transfer the settings but I'll try doing it from scratch.

Yes I have an active license and a Basic Support Plan.

So I'll just download the V5 download their website and proceed from there making sure I de-activate the existing BI on old computer first. Thanks!

You can read about backing up the .reg file(s) here.
You can play around with importing, and if things get Wonky....you can set them( the cams) up manually

Turns out it was easier than expected installing from scratch I'm glad you guys suggested doing that. I did make screen shots of BI settings from old computer so now just checking to see if something needs tweaked.

I'm not going to get a chance to mess with this with until Monday but I ran into a few of things so far I can't figure out.

(1) I have activated my BI license on my new computer so that looks fine while BI now shows evaluation screen on my old computer. My mobile apps though I think are still seeing my old computer because they have the evaluation screens. How do I fix this?

(2) Global Settings > Email Servers I set this up and if I run the test I get an email... but if I trigger a camera I get nothing?

(3) Global Settings > Mobile devices it is greyed out, how do I add Mobile devices?

(4) Global Settings > Startup 'Run as a Windows Service.' Then it asks for Local Windows Admin login and I'm not sure what it's asking for... I've tried several different usernames & passwords but haven't found the right one yet. On my old computer/BI setting I apparently was able to sign in because it runs as a Windows Service just don't remember what I used.

re 1: you cannot simultaneously license 1 product key to 2 devices. Thus the Eval screen. you have to unplug old PC. or get a 2nd license.

4. You new PC should be running with an Administrator password set , thats what its asking for

2: see events in Help. you have to tell each camera to send an email.

3. i dont see that....at least on my version of Blue iris. I havent updated for awhile.

I think you may be misunderstanding my question. Yes I know you can’t have two BI’s running with the same license so I do understand why I have the Eval screen on the old computer. I’m still looking back at settings on my old computer so need to keep it going for now.

My mobile apps are still seeing the BI on my old computer and thus have the Eval screen, not the licensed BI on my new computer. I guess what I should have asked is, in order for my mobile apps to see the new computer do I need to re-run the Remote Access Wizard again or just change the Port Forward setting?

Beginning to wonder if I should just uninstall BI, reinstall, and import Settings.

Importing settings won't fix your issue.

Your app is pointing to the IP address of your old computer.

You just need to either change the new computer to the IP address of the old computer or change the IP address in the app to the new computer.

Yeah that’s the first thing I thought of. I already tried changing the IP of the app to the IP address of the new computer expecting it to work. In the app no change because it’s still showing the Evaluation screens I’m assuming from the old computer.

So still can't figure out why my mobile apps are still seeing the Blue Iris on the Old computer in Eval screen when I changed the LAN on the App to match the BI LAN of the new computer. I didn't try changing the new computer to the IP address of the old computer figured I would get the same result.

I live in a rural area and we have one ISP whose plans are a Managed Service... I don't have access to the router settings. I had to call their tech to setup Port Forward and set up a Static IP for each of my cameras. Could any of this be coming into play here?

Try deleting the mobile app and create it from scratch using the IP of the new computer.

Just tried deleting the mobile app starting from scratch like you suggested and using the Ip but I’m still seeing the Eval screens. Surely this has to be something simple we’re not seeing right?
