Yes, I have down graded a camera to 5-2-5-English. I'm just objecting to the fact that CH cameras are banished to single point only solutions and can't join the current software release chain. I guess this is the new normal where companies try to build a moat around their forts.

Yes, I agree with your sentiments.
Though it's fair to say, at least for the cameras, many of the changes on updates have been around trying to do region blocking, trying to inhibit the ability to make small DIY changes for user benefit, improved logon security discouraging the use of original default credentials. Not a lot to do with adding functionality, not a lot to do with vulnerability fixes to protect those who insist on creating remote access without understanding the risk and protection requirements.
But for every new barrier, there are those with the capability to circumvent it.
The region blocking just gets in the way of people who want to make best use of the products, and trips up those who are ignorant of it.
In my view - it does the brand name no good at all.

Excellent point. The brand is being hurt by the current situation. Distribution and branding are a problem when the uninitiated see no difference between a cheap Amazon CH camera that is locked and a "legitimate" supported camera that costs 50-75% more. One way to salvage it would be to directly advertise a premium brand that does have software improvements and security fixes. Not sure I would choose to go with the expensive camera however.

At least there are capable people that are interested in providing some form of solution. Thanks for your support on this forum!

I'm just finishing up a 14 camera farm security system with a mix of v5.25 and and v5.3.0 CH cameras with a US HIKVision 7716 NVR. Hope they all will play nice together.

All, I bricked my DS-2CD2032-i in a special way, or I think it is in an odd way.

Current condition of the camera is that it will
- boot to it's old IP address
- I does not recognize user names used before
- it does not have a web interface running
- I can log into it using 'root' and '12345' via telnet

when I log in I have some basic unix like commands.

I tried to put a VM on my Mac on to the VLAN of the camera, then us the TAR file that was posted to the tread to recover, and I never see the camera try to download from the FTP.

I just tried the Python Scripts but it is erring in Error: "Address 192.0.0.128:69 in use. Make sure no other TFTP server is running." there is not, as I did a ps -ea | grep ftp99683 ttys000 0:00.00 grep ftp

Since I can log in, is there a way to tell the camera to just load the .dav file?

try this form page 2 of this discussion. Was posted by whoslooking originally. This worked for me..
Ok this is covered in this post on how to recover your bricked camera this covers all firmwares upto 5.2.8
See this post.http://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread....brick+recovery.
Thank you. I read that post and discovered the 'root' user ID, but I do not have the mtd5 & 6 files.

I thought I could just skip that part, and try the FTPD, but this happens, I tried various combinations to get the demon to run in the back ground;

# -sh: -: not found

[1]+ Done(127) - ftpd
# ftpd &.
#
[1]+ Done(1) ftpd
# ftpd &
#
[1]+ Done(1) ftpd
#

So I learned this morning that there is a new twist. my FTP Client (Cyberduck) was connecting, but getting an error.

Could not parse response code.
Server Reply: ftpd[400]: 550 Error
550 Error. Please contact your web hosting service provider for assistance.

Then I went to a shell/terminal session and just did a ftp root@192.168.11.64 and the unit responded, (no password)

From your thoughts, I have moved along to this point.

  1. The unit has old IP
  2. The unit does not have username and passwords
  3. the unit does have 'root' and '12345' via telnet
  4. the command to turn on the ftp demon on the unit is 'ftp &.' without the ' and DO NOT hit a second enter or the demon closes.

Now the issue is I do not have the MTD files to push. I need a way to get the 5 & 6 which I assume is the web interface, or how to do a DAV load from a command line, do I FTP it, or is there a syntax around the upgrade command.

This does sound very odd.
Can we get a bit more info, as you seem to have shell root access via telnet?
For example from a 2032 (with apologies to all for the long text):
Code:
login as: root
[EMAIL="root@192.168.254.11's"]root@192.168.254.11's[/EMAIL] password:

BusyBox v1.19.3 (2014-07-11 11:25:54 CST) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

Two parts, looks like the TFTP is being blocked on the @#$@ Windows machine. need to research the firewall rules, as I thought I created one to open up for the app, but see this on the network;

That's the reason your camera is not booting - no ram file system.
It's held in mtd11 & 12
But it's probably not actually corrupt - you could confirm if it was extracted - it's possibly an inconsistency in what's been used to update the device and the device model.
I have a suspicion it may also be a deliberate misleading message due to applying wrong firmware, or tripping up on 'hardware descriptor block' checksums in mtdblock6.

14:41:07.231721 IP 192.0.0.64.9979 > 192.0.0.128.9978: UDP, length 20
That's the standard probe for the Hikvision tftp server.

What was the firmware version written on the camera label, and that reported by the web GUI, if you remember it?
A difference usually indicates some seller-installed firmware, if you didn't update it yourself.

A good place to start would be to use the firmware from the first post here:https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/4036-Custom-Firmware-Downgrader-5-3-0-Chinese-to-5-2-5-English
On the face of it - mtdblock5 & 6 do exist. Did you modify them? If so - best put the originals back until the camera is back fully working.

*edit*
need to research the firewall rules,
The simplest way is to delete all inbound rules for tftpserve.exe then when you next run it, tick both private and public boxes and click 'allow' when the 'Windows has blocked ...' msgbox pops up.

The label is 5.2.8, I tried to install 5.3 as the web site listed DS-2CD2x32 Camera.... oops

I did not modify an mtdblocks. I just used the web interface and uploaded the DAV file of of the website..... :(

I will need to find a windows PC. I use a MAC and have virtual Windows Machines, but the latest trace

Code:

The MAC address responding is the NIC of the iMac (ac:87:a3:10:52:84) not the virtual interface of the virtual machine (00:1c:42:25:06:8e)

I will have to grab a real Windows Machine to get the TFTP server to respond to the request, I am going to send the DAV file you suggested, just need the TFTP server to respond.

Thank you for the help, you have a REAL cool deep knowledge of the system of this camera

For anyone trying this on a Mac with Parallels

- Bridge the VM to the Interface
- Windows 10 - Turn off the Firewall
- Windows 10 - change the IP address of the interface
- REBOOT windows 10

Windows will then come up with the 192.0.0.128 address and the TFTP server from HikVision will see that as its address.

For me trying the DAV file that was with the TAR to down grade from 5.3 to 5.2 now has my camera not even getting an IP address.....

Camera is now grabbing DAV files each time it boots from the TFTP server, but never fully boots. Keeps the 192.0.0.64 (or I think it does from my switch).

I tried the DAV files from the 5.3 downgrader,
then from http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/index.php?dir=Product Firmware/Cameras/DS-2CD2xx2/ the V 5.2.3
then the one someone posted a ZIP of 5.2.5
now trying V 5.1.2

What does sadp report?, as your missing something not sure what thought.

But sounds like your in the min-system mode.
Using a Mac in VM is very limited in this.

SADP only sees my other HikVision Camera. The Switch port does not see an IP address from the device, after it goes through the boot up TFTP sequence.

With no IP I can not Telnet to it. I think I saw on a thread someone finding a serial port inside the camera. Might try this, as of right now, I REALLY have a brick.

Thank you for all the help though, been a journey.

I'm having the same problem with a DS-2CD2332.

It's a chinese hikvision witch original had v5.2.8 installed (printed on it's label)

Problem is that it doesn't show op in SADP

Camera doesn't seem to come online and the IR led stays on all the time.

First I used TFTP uodater to load v5.2.5 on the camera, this is working as normal and ends with the message 'system update completed'.

But after rebooting the camera, it still isn't showing op in SADP and IR led still stays on.

Then I tried to use the 'mtd brick recovery guide' but the problem is that I don't have a copy of the original mtd files.

I'm a total noob in using telnet/cute ftp so I'm asking for some help on how to get this camera back online.

I did manage to get some info through telnet/cute ftp and share some pics of it.

Hope this helps to see what might be the problem.

Does this mean that you made some changes to mtdblock5 & 6?
If so, that could be the reason why the camera is not fully booting.
If you can recall the changes you made (presumably the language bytes), grab a copy of what's there and revert the changes, put them back.
I did manage to get some info through telnet
It would probably be helpful in terms of clues to the problem to grab a copy of the kernel log.
Either
cat /proc/kmsg
or
dmesg
should work.
From what you've shown - I'm surprised SADP does not show that camera.
Is your PC wired, not WiFi?
Have you tried re-installing SADP? Latest version is 3.x

I'm using a wired connection.

Just tried newest SADP version without succes.

I've bought the camera from someone who bricked it using the wrong firmware, assuming I could solve the problem like I did with my other 2332.

I didn't do the upgrade myself, so I don't have a backup off the mtd files.

I also don't know what the previous owner did to mess up the camera.

I just assumed that I could get ik back up and running because the original firmware is 5.2.8

Seems it's not so simple as the other one.

Been reading up on all the usefull info here on this forum and trying to figure out what to do.

this is what cat /proc/kmsg shows (don't know how to copy/paste it, so I made some pics)

-edited- managed to copy the kernel log, see next post...

No ram file system, so no full boot.
Possibly tripping up on mtdblock5 / 6 checksums incorrect.
Or wrong firmware for the model.

The firmware I used is the same I succesfully used to update my other 2332, so I think it must be the mtd files.
Is it possible to copy mtd5 and mtd6 blocks from a working camera to solve this ?
Or is there a way to copy the 'ram file system' ?
